New type of Pads for the Cimex

I'm planning to add a new pad to our line for the Cimex machines. The new pads are called PUFF pads by the Etc Pad Company. These pads are specifically manufactured for scrubbing carpets.

http://etcpads.com/CARPET.HTML

The new Puff pads will be cut to the same 7-3/4" dimension as the natural/blend pads. There will be no center hole cut in the Puff pads. The pads are 3/8’ thick. So this is a very thin pad. The pad has a tufted criss-cross style surface that is extremely dense.

The Puff pads are constructed from a soft synthetic fiber. The manufacturer basically takes a 1" pad and then compresses and needle punches it to produce a very thin densely packed fiber. The fibers are tightly packed. It’s the density of this thin pad that should clearly provide better wear.

We’ve been getting very good results with the natural/blend pads. But they sometimes wear too quickly. The natural/blend pads are actually floor burnishing pads that we’re adapting to carpet care. On the other hand, Etc has manufactured these pads exclusively for carpets for many years.

You can immediately see that these pad are sturdier than the natural/blend pads as soon as you look at them. In the testing that I’ve done with these pads they showed significantly less wear. The new pads also create more foam while using LESS solution. There seems to be less drag on the machine. And it appears that the pads are actually spinning a little faster too (I assume that this is on account of lower drag). The difference with these pads is evident in just the first few minutes of using them. I was concerned that the Puff pads might not clean as well, but they appeared to clean every bit as good as the natural/blend pads

I think these new pads will perform very well from a wear standpoint. And my initial observation is that they will scrub carpets extremely well too. I have placed an order for a large shipment of these new pads. I’ll let you know when they come in.

How does the cleaning solution go through the pad if they're dense and there is no hole in the middle?

Probably a stupid question but I'm just curious. Looking forward to using these pads.

Rich,

The solution seeps through the pads. Without the center hole it diperses through the pad with an even flow.

Maybe someday Rich Gallina will turn into Rick Galinas and I'll know everything he knows. OK, like that will happen but I'm learning everything I can. I'm going to take classes this spring.
