I need to make or buy a ramp for Cimex

November 28 2002 at 8:38 AM
Steve Lawrence

My back has just about recovered from lifting Cimex in and out of the truck 4 times, 8 days ago. Yes, by my lonesome.

I need a ramp bad. (Rick, yours looks good and I might copy that.) Would prefer to just buy one hoping it will be metal and compact as possible, maybe folding.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks,
Steve

Look for an aluminum ATV ramp. There are several sizes that would work good. Some tractor supply houss have them.

Steve,

I have 2 carpet vans and one floor care pickup truck. The floor care truck is low to the ground and has no ramp. In the 2002 Chevy I have the plywood designed ramp that you saw. In the 97 Ford I have one of the LINK aluminum bi-fold ramps. The Link ramp is outstanding. It looks sharp. The only negative is that if it's wet outside your feet will slip dangerously on the aluminum ramp. The plywood ramp works fine in wet conditions and it's very inexpensive to build. Having had both types of ramps, I would prefer to go with the plywood design from now on.

Rick needs some grip tape.

Maybe you could spray the aluminum ramp with a grip substance paint, or paint loaded with sand or something.

We just throw a couple of towels or OP pads onto the ramp when it's wet and we can walk right up.

I got one better yet-- a lift gate on my box truck. After a long job it sure is nice to press a button and load it up the truck.

I have used ramps before. The best one I saw was one I made out of expanded metal and 2 angle iron side frames. The expanded metal (looks like diamonds cut out into a sheet of steel) is lighter and has grip so that you don't slip when wet.

If you want one made, I have friends with a metal working shop and can ask them for a quote.

Hey Tony,
Why not ask 'em. I have one older style van,95 and two newer Savannahs, in case they need to know. Oh, I just want one ramp.
Thanks,
Steve
