Trying to explain encap to the masses

December 5 2002 at 12:32 PM

Rick Gelinas

I don't fully understand a lot of things that work, like... Where does the Sun continuously get its endless supply of energy? Why don't marine mammals drown when they sleep? Why does lint collect in my belly button? The list of things that I can't fully explain is very long.

Even though I can't fully explain these things; I DO see and feel the effect of the Sun. I DO know that marine mammals rest without drowning. I DO know that lint collects in my belly button. And I DO know that encapsulation produces very nice results on our commercial carpets.

Like I said before,... I gave up on trying to "Enlighten" people about this. Ya try to help people and all you do is get bashed.
Seems like "most" people get set in thier ways, and won't accept a process they assume "Can't" work.
I say the heck with em! I don't want every cleaner in town using this technology anyway.

Joe,

It is a treat to have you here! WELCOME

For those of you who don't know Old Slow Joe...
I first ran across Old Slow Joe on the Floor Care BB. Joe has been cleaning VCT tile floors (and some carpet too) for more years than most. I don't know exactly how long - but I think it's around 30 years.

First of all, Joe's NOT Slow. He is in his 60's but he can still out run a 20 year old kid anyday of the week. And even though Joe is in his 60's he's still out in the trenches. He still loves the work. He's still buying new equipment. Joe's still behind the wheel of his company and he's still running a solid business. One day I may be Old Slow Rick (wait maybe I already am - I can't remember).

Here's what got me to notice Joe. This CRAZY guy starts talking on the Floor Care Board about using Pine Sol to clean and buff floors with. The first time I saw that I thought it was a joke. Pine Sol! In fact, everyone on the board thought it was a joke. But one by one the guys started to try it. And a lot of the guys found that have tried it have seen that it really does pop the shine when they're high speed buffing. A crazy idea that works... hmmmm

Joe, maybe we should change your handle to Crazy Old Slow Joe

Could encapsualtion be the answer to that age old problem - simply apply to belly button and lint will no longer accumulate!!!!

I've come to the conclusion that Tom Rowe's advice above is what I will follow. Thanks Tom.

Folks can present questions for me regarding encapsulation, the Cimex, or commercial cleaning on this forum. I've got more important things to do with my time and energy than to try to "explain encapsulation to the masses". What was I thinking?

Rick....you were thinking you were dealing with mature adults.......
I used to think the "cream of the crop" were on the cc boards......instead I have found many to be bitter, sarcastic human beings, taking their own business failure out on others in the way of dumbass statements and general ball busting in general...
I love dealing with Bob Cairns,Rich Gallina,Scott Rendall,Jamie Coelho and a handful of others who are serious about their business.
I agree Rick, you should probably let it go with these people...let them stay in their "one method mentality"

Rick, you are right. You will not change the masses on the other board. I have followed the other board for a very long time and have come to the conclusion that there are only a very few really professional cleaners that seek to improve their knowledge or at least take a look at alternative ideas. Most just gossip or look for a reason to tear somewhat up to make themselves look better. I have met several of the characters at Summerfest in the past and realized that many of them or very small thinkers. If seems their hight lite of the day is the board and what the new gossip is. Rick, don't let them get you down. I for one have appreciated the knowledge you have given and the professional way in which you conduct yourself. The Cimex has been a great addition to my business and I profit from its use weekly as well as getting customer appreciation for the job it does. Thanks again, Rick. I apprecitate what you have done.
