The FiberPlus pads are in

You all will think I’m crazy – (and you’re probably right). I have been going insane trying to find the BEST pads for the Cimex for carpet cleaning. Here’s a brief history…

We started out with a soft hoghair/blend pad. It scrubbed very well but we experienced some inconsistency between batches. Some batches didn’t last long enough. I learned that this can happen with a natural fiber pad. Back to the drawing board.

Along the way I have tested several other pads too. There was a pad called Blue Ice, an Aqua pad, a Cocoa pad (made with coconut fiber) and a Norton hair pad. I wasn’t sold on any of these pads for our application.

I then decided to go with the Etc Puff pads. The Puff pad is actually designed for scrubbing carpet so it stands to reason that it should work well for our needs. Well it does work just fine. But it is also an expensive pad to use.

A few cleaners asked for a more aggressive pad than the Puff pad. So I also added the Gorilla hoghair pad. The Gorilla pad cleans like a champ, but it doesn’t last very long.

So I have continued on my quest for the best carpet cleaning pad. The Cimex puts a lot of wear on the pads. This has made it especially difficult to find a pad that will give us good cleaning as well as long wear. I think my search may be over.

I recently got together with a manufacturer who understands what we’ve looking to accomplish. We came up with a pad that is a fairly soft. The pads contain an elastomeric binder material. The elastomeric property creates a stronger pad. And the abrasiveness is a good match for scrubbing carpet fiber too. These pads clean great and they're the longest lasting pads I've tried yet. We’re having the new pads manufactured for us with the name "FiberPlus".

Well the new FiberPlus pads are now available. They come packaged 10 to a case. The cost is $19 plus $5 S&H = $24 per case. So the next time that you order pads I believe you will be impressed.

I also want to apologize for going around in circles with the whole pad thing. It has not been easy at all to locate the correct pads for our unique application. Whenever I contact a pad company and start talking about using pads for carpet cleaning they generally just say – “huh”. This is a new concept. So it has been a challenge to find the best pads to say the least!!! And the bummer is that each time I’ve had to order a large quantity in order to get the custom size cut. So I’m now sitting on a large surplus of the older style pads. Anyone interested in some discounted older style pads?

I am HAPPY to finally have the search behind me. The new FiberPlus pads are the pads I'll be recommending. Thank you all for your patience through the search process. I think you'll be happy that I kept looking when you see the way the new pads work.

Thanks for all your efforts and hard work Rick! BTW, when people respond with "huh" it usually means your ahead of your time...or NUTS. Seriously though, your efforts will help many people become competetive in the commercial arena...hopefully I'll be among them.

Maybe carpet on carpet?

March 11 2003, 6:26 PM

Rick, I'll order a case of these pads in a few minutes.
I'm curius about using a pad made of carpet, something like a level loop nylon. I don't know how such a pad might be adhered to the brushes or drive shaft of he Cimex, though, but it's worth brainstorming over.

I figure that recycled carpet that is in good shape might go a long way when used on top of carpet and vinyl floors and stone.

I have an industrial sewing machine, and if someone gives me an idea to work with, I'd be willing to sew something together.

Ed,

How about taking a good piece of carpet and glueing and binding the edges after cutting it in the shape of a circle. Then take that piece of carpet and sew it to a new pad. That will give you you correct interface with the instalock drives to the pad, but the carpet will be doing the agitation.

Hope that gets you on your way!

Tony
