CIMEX Size...

August 17 2003 at 1:25 PM
Anonymous

I know we discuss it before, but I can't find the thread.
What the most CIMEX users prefer, the 17" or the 19" CIMEX, I mean wich size the most they buy.
I was last week with James McDannel, and he test clean with the 19" very impressive machine, but huge.
Everywhere I look it sell for $ 1.999, what? all these guys communicate with each other? LOL! Not $10 less nowhere!
BTW Rick G. do you rent the CIMEX? I want to test it first in a job.
James M. thanks for your help!

Cimex Pricing

August 17 2003, 5:03 PM

Hi Chris,

Actually the wholesale cost for Cimex machines recently increased a full 20%. So the folks who are still showing the Cimex CR48SP at $1999 have not updated their prices yet. All of the CR48SP machines in North America at the old price have been sold, unless you manage to find a machine in someone’s warehouse. There is a shipment of machines in route from England right now. The new machines will reflect the new pricing.

Why the price increase? The US dollar has taken a beating against the English pound. In fact the US dollar is doing badly against foreign dollars the world over. And the new manufacturer (Truvox) is not going to do a loss leader with the machines as the old manufacturer had been doing. I want to keep the machine as attractive as possible so I'm trying to not pass the full impact of the 20% increase on to my customers.

I am still offering FREE shipping to business addresses within the US. However I’m no longer able to offer the brushes/drivers for free and the price has gone up about $50. The special offer with the brushes/drivers was a promotion that I had been making and I was absorbing the cost of the brushes/drivers.

When you factor in a set of brushes or drivers and the $50 increase - the price has gone up about 10%. This means that I'm actually losing 10% now. I don;t want to raise the price a full 20% because I think that will make the machine less attractive. So the price has gone up a little, but even at the new price I think that the Cimex is still a bargain when you consider its ability.

Give me a call if you'd like 727-821-2020 Chris.

Cimex Question Rick

August 20 2003, 5:08 AM

Hey Chris, you're more than welcome on seeing the cimex, Did a church with it last night that looks great and doing several thousand feet with it on saturday if you want to come along you're more than welcome, (Rick) do you have any info on building a portable wash area I would like to get into Oriental Rug cleaning a little deeper. I turned down another carpet yesterday soaked with urine, Everyone seems to be unhappy with( Tinney's ) there's a bigger market than I thought for these been turning down several lately, I just don't have the room available for a fixed wash area it would have to be broke down at completion of Job,
Thanks Jim

Would this work Jim

Here is an excellent description of how to build an "in house" rug washing plant offered by Tom Tsao.

Copyright 2001 G. Tom Tsao. All rights reserved.
Used by permission of Mr. Tsao

First of all, I prefer to call mine a tank or vat. Just semantics, though. If I'm talking with a customer about my chems, I call them "detergents" or "spotting agents." When discussing my rug washing pit, it's a "tank or vat".

Mine is highly technical and requires an engineering degree to understand.

Parts list: (4) 14' pressure treated 2 x 4's

(9) framing nails (one extra in case you bend one)

(1) 16' x 20' plastic tarp

(1) 12' or 15' x 20' piece of olefin low level loop cheapo commercial grade carpet with attached pad

(1) electric sump pump with floor-level intake (pumps to within 1/8")

(1) piece of aluminum screen

(2) 6' PT 2 x 4's

Roll the carpet out.
Stand the 14' boards on edge and nail them together into a square over the carpet. Have the square run off the edge of the carpet by about 2 feet on the lower end of your wash area. This is where you will put the pump.

Place the two 6' boards at the edge of the carpet (2' from the bottom of the square). Do not nail them in. You may prefer to keep one end of each board on top of the square. Your personal experience as you use this tank will tell you what to do.

Cover the whole thing with the tarp. Pull out as many wrinkles as you can.

Make a basket out of the aluminum screen. Put the basket into the square, and the pump into the basket.

Don't forget to use a GFCI-protected outlet!

Fill with water, go swimming.

Ades made a good suggestion referring to Tom's wash pit instructions. Click Here I don't know if that idea could be made portable for you though. But you might get creative and come up with something.

I agree with you that Tinney does not have a great reputation here in town. I've had the same idea as you about setting up a rug business here in St Petersburg. But it really would require a decent sized building to do it right.

Here's an idea I've seen used before- and its portable. Take 4" PVC pipe and use its appropiate sized fittings to make a box [(4) 90 degrees]. These would just be dry fitted together with no glue. Then get a cheapo rug that fits into the box you now created- this will serve as padding and cushioning. Get a plastic tarp a few feet larger on each side then the box you created. Lay over box. If this box is created on a slightly sloped area, then you could add a marine buildge pump to pump out the water when necessary. The cheapo option would be to just release the piping on one side or corner and drain the water out that way.

Another great idea by Tony B. I've lost count of how many clever ideas Tony has shared with me. Tony, you missed your calling bro - you should be working in a research lab or something like that.
