Encapping acrylic and polyester carpets

November 26 2003 at 8:56 PM
Gary R. Heacock

So, today, at Mrs. Piffelton's, I am gonna do her family room of acrylic fiber berber, which is always filthy- I do it every 6 months, alternating Bi-O-Dry bonnet system and tm steam cleaning, and her living room, dining room and stairs which are light brown polyester plush.

Always tough to get clean with the tm, without overwetting, and while the Bi-O-Dry does not overwet, it takes a LOT of time and bonnets to get this junk clean.

OK, today I am gonna encap with my Chemstractor using the shampoo brush. I start at 9 am.

About 10 or 15 minutes into the job, she gets a phone call. Gonna have company drop over at noon. She freaks!! Carpet has gotta be clean and DRY before the company comes!!

Normally this is a 3 to 4 hour job. OK, so I use the encap treatment, then follow with a clean thick cotton bonnet, then follow that with a dry DirtGetter bonnet.

Since the encap is so quick, but leaves the carpet damp, there is time to do it all. I finish at 11:30.

Only the back of the living room, done last is the slightest bit damp.

I collect, and am outta there.

Loading the truck up, I can't help but notice the thick cotton bonnet apparently has NO DIRT on it. It's damp, but tht's all. The DirtGetter bonnet has a slight amount of dirt on it.

The carpets are clean!! Where did the dirt go?
I dunno, but the dirt did not get picked up into the bonnets, which are normally plenty dirty.

I am gonna do this again.

Oh yeah, I am gonna charge her more next time, too!!

Gary
