Need suggestions on Encap (problem?)

OK, I ordered Releasit and went right to the biggest headache carpet I have... Olefin comm. glue down where drops of water spilled on the carpet turn brown within an hour.

The only way we have been able to get the carpet clean so far was to HWE followed immediately with a dry pad and Bonnet clean (dry) with blowers going. Yes, we vacuum VERY thoroughly.

Tried it with Releasit last Sat and it looked great, however, it still 'wicked' anywhere the Releasit was still wet when we left. Had it mixed 8 oz's to the gallon.

Anyone with a similar experience/carpet?

I used a RotoVac with the brushes (got the foam and looked good). Using the Roto, however, at the top and bottom of the 'wand' strokes leaves a heavier application where your wand crosses where it has been earlier.

Thanks!

Coby,

It's hard to tell exactly what's going on without seeing the carpet. But it sounds like it's possibly one problem, or possibly a combination of problems that you're experiencing. It sounds like the situation can be easily rectified. And you'll find that as you gain experience with the encap cleaning method you'll see that it's pretty easy to control problem situations like you have here.

Here are a few things for you to consider that would likely correct your problem for you...

1. You're possibly not scrubbing deeply enough. STRONG agitation is imperative with encapsulation. The Cimex scrubs far deeper than any other machine, and in a recurring stain situation like you have - I'd still make SEVERAL passes with the Cimex. So with a lighter scrubbing machine like the Roto-Vac you'll want to make a BUNCH of scrubbing passes to insure that you have worked the stain out of the carpet.

2. You may be applying too much detergent. This is a common problem, especially for folks who are new to encapsulation. The tendency is to use too much product. You only need to use enough solution to lightly whiten the surface.

3. Better results may have been achieved using the directions on the jug for spill stains. This fixes most wicking related problems.

4. Possibly speeding up the drying would help too. Using blowers in a problem areas such as this reduces the possibility of a wicking problem.

5. It is also helpful in browning/water-stain situations to use a small amount of Citric Acid powder. In extreme cases we'll add a capful of Bridgepoint's Citric Acid powder to a bucket of Releasit. This helps to stop browning/water-stains. Coincidentally, I've been told that DuPont's Resistech contains Citric Acid too. hmmm

Hope this helps you!

We mix it in a 3 gallon bucket. This brings the pH all the way down to 5. If you're using a larger bucket you'd probably want to add a heaping capful and you'd be in the right range.

MEASURING: Dollar stores have good pails to mix chemical solutions. Invest into a measuring cup and you'll always have th correct amount of cleaning solution.
