Carpet recolor via Cimex/Releasit :-)

February 4 2004 at 5:59 PM

Rick Gelinas

Here's a job we did last night. It was a large 24 hour copy center with a FILTHY carpet. This is a 7 year old carpet. The store needs to be serviced quarterly, but they've been in a budget freeze this past year, so it hasn't been cleaned since last April.

We pre-vacuumed real well, pre-sprayed with Releasit, and scrubbed with the Cimex and heated Releasit. It came back to life pretty well considering the neglected condition it was in when we started. The color shift was pretty impressive, as you can see from the picture. It took two of us just over 3 hours and we charged $470 for it.

I spoke to the manager today. He is hoping to get the budget rolling for more frequent quarterly cleaning again. He was extremely pleased. He said the contrast "blew his mind", that it "looked phenomenal", and that we do "awesome work". Dang!

It's fun pulling off results like this!!!

Here's the secret tricks I used for doctoring this photo (LOL)

1. Removed the flash card from the camera
2. Downloaded the pictures
3. Posted them on my website

I didn't even adjust the brightness or contrast.

Actually I do have a trick...
I bought a Canon G3. I had seen Steve Smith's AMAZING indoor pictures that he gets with his Canon, so I had to have one. This camera has excellent white balance adjustments for lighting. It's very accurate. In short, I absolutely LOVE this camera. If you're serious about taking detailed indoor photos like this, the Canon rocks.

Rick, Out of curiosity, what caused the soiling. In this area we have alot of clay. That carpet looked almost browned out. Had it been previously cleaned with a different system. Either way it looked very nice
Thanks, Jim

Jim,

Grayed out and browned out carpet is what we commonly see around here, just like you see here. I would suspect that oils and asphalt sealer were tracked in too, which causes a brownish hue to occur. In this case, the parking lot is just a few feet away from the front door. It also doesn't look like the janitors are vacuuming very well either, because we recovered a large quantity of dry soil in the dirt cup. But ultimately I think the carpet looked like this because of the heavy retail traffic in this busy 24 hour facility, and since it hadn't been cleaned in 10 months.

It really incredible the results with releasit and Cimex. We did an oil field service building that gets a lot of oil and grime on the carpets. We've done the carpets a number of times with the truck mount and various chemicals. The carpet came out reasonable each time but you still notice the centers in halls and around desk pads quite a bit. We did the carpets with the Cimex back in October and they still don't look like they needed anything. The most impressive part was when you moved the desk pads that you could hardly notice any difference.

Keep up the great work Rick
