Black soot and oil

February 26 2004 at 2:28 PM
Michael Grant

I have a chance to clean a 8X3 ft area that is in front of a closet that holds an oil buring furnace. 3 wks ago they had a problem with it and now there is a large 3sqft black area and a few foot prints.
Just to try it I asked the owner if I could try and clean it with a different type of cleaning system. The carpet is old and in the back of a small store.
There wont be any job to be gotten if I if comes out I am just going to see what releaseit and my cimex will do. Ill take some before and after pictures and post them. I know releasit is not really built for oil and grease but I have used it on oil with success in the past.Any suggestions or tips welcomed

We did a runner one time that was literally penetrated with oil form a refrigirator. Used some POG to break it down and presprayed with some TLC. It got all the grease out and brought back its original colors. Used HWE to extract all that oil out, but it worked very well.

Hi Michael,

I'm sure you could follow Emelio's suggestion and get the job done. But it sounds like the spirit of curiosity is at work in you and you want to see how far you can push the Cimex/Releasit system. Well we won't know until you try. So in the spirit of your curiosity, go and show us what can be accomplished. We await your feedback.

Like with any heavily soiled carpet: Vacuum real well. Apply Releasit as a pre-spray according to the directions on the jug and allow a few minutes of dwell time. Mix up some Releasit with HOT water. And scrub the carpet SLOWLY with your Cimex making several additional dry passes. Avoid the tendency to over apply too much detergent.

Keep us posted

If what Rick suggests doesn't work completely, add some Citri-Pure to your prespray (2 oz. per gallon) and re-spray it, dwell, scrub, then re-encapsultate.

The Releasit should encapsulate the boosted prespray.

One of the earlier posts suggested using POG to aide in the cleaning. Paint oil and grease products are non volitile in nature and most are not water soluble and will remain in the carpet and cause rapid resoiling, so I would caution against using a POG product.

Ummm... I gotta agree with Don- IF!! you use POG, I think it would be best to rinse with HWE before anything else.

That said, I used Releasit in a home with white nylon carpet with pretty severe filtration lines with 100% success- blew me away!! I know it's not the same as spilled oil, but give it a try and see how it goes.

I'm very curious to see how that works as well.

If it doesn't, give Dirt Delete a try, mixed 1-15, it really cuts this stuff like crazy and is removed from the carpet very easy.

What is Dirt Delete? Who makes it?

I am new to your message board. Have been using Releasit 4 weeks and am IMPRESSED. Getting ready to order a Cimex.

Other chemicals of interest are CFR Reclaim and Spin Vac. Info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Spin Vac is an excellant encapsulation detergent very comparable to Releasit. Rick sells it, manufactured by DSC in Michigan. We have had excellant results with it.
Can not comment on any of CFR detergents, never have used them

I have used the DSC product and it cleans great! The only thing I don't like about it is it makes me sneeze and smells like S-O-A-P!!! :P
