Encapping a dye transfer

Gary R. Heacock

Teenage girl's bedroom. Light tan nylon plush.

In a corner is her computer. On the carpet is some 20-25 spills of food and drinks. AND where there had been a throw pillow- red- that she had spilled some liquid on, then turned it over so there was a red dye transfer onto the carpet some 12 inches by 3 inches.

Hmmm... I am gonna try Releasit on the dye transfer as well as the various spills. I give them a dose of the 50-50 mix, agitate slightly, and set up my machine.

The spills- all out. The dye transfer- about 99.95% out. Still a tiny trace. Another dose, nope. Other spotters- still that last tiny bit of red not out.

Oh well, so it ain't perfect- just 99.95%.

I gave the last bit of red a tiny dose of peroxide, and maybe it will slowly fade- or not. I feel I gave it my best shot anyway.

Heacock's Cleaning Adventures

March 11 2004, 9:58 PM

Gary,

I LOVE reading the ongoing chronicles of Heacock's Cleaning Adventures. (Soon to be available at booksellers everywhere)

As I started reading this one I was thinking OH NO don't tell them that Releasit will remove dyes, because it's not designed to do that. So I was somewhat relieved when I saw that it didn't work entirely. In truth I'm surprised that it removed 99% of the dye stuff from the fiber because it's really not built for that. However I am happy to hear that you've once again pushed the envelope and achieved good results. I keep learning about new things that our product is capable of as I read your accounts.

So thanks for sharing yet another installment of Heacock's Cleaning Adventures. We're going to have to compile these adventures and see about having it published sometime next year by Doubleday.

I'll be looking forward to reading about your next adventure

I did a job the other day that I had done before.
The first time I cleaned it I used my op machne and I believe I used Carpet 123. I moved a chair and there was a spot I believed to be a furniture stain since I padded over it and it didn't budge.
This time I cleaned the same carpet with Releasit a white scrub pad and op. I'm not sure what the spot was but this time it came out with Releasit.
