Photo of Crystallized Releasit

Rick Gelinas

I just added a photo to our website showing the crystallized formation of Releasit when it dries...

(Releasit dried in a petri dish, showing its distinct crystal formation)

Why is crystallization so important?
Releasit™ uses innovative polymer technology to form a distinct crystal when it dries. The crystal is the vehicle that enables a good encapsulator to capture soil so it can be removed through post-vacuuming. Although some products may claim to "encapsulate" on the label and they may get the carpet to look good initially, (it's easy to get a carpet to look cleaner) the real concern should be whether or not the encapsulated soil can be removed with post-vacuuming.

Here's a simple test that you can perform to establish what an "encapsulation" product does when it dries.

It's very easy. Just take a few drops of the product and dry it in a glass dish overnight. Check the content the next day. Did it form a true crystal? Does it readily release from the dish? Or did it dry sticky, gooey? Was it not completely dried? Or was it possibly stuck like a barnacle to the dish?

This simple dish-drying test will reveal the products soil releasing ability. A good encapsulation product should form a distinct crystal that will break up and release from the dish. Keep in mind that crystallization is the medium that holds the soil in suspension until it can be extracted with post-vacuuming. The soil can't be vacuumed from the carpet if poor crystallizing or no crystallizing occurs.

Releasit is a better product than M&B

To whoever the bogus poster was, I can assure you that this is a picture of Releasit, not M&B.

And Jeff, I also agree with your assessment.

I have been doing some testing of my own, and the Releasit is the only one that I have found to crytalize.

Thanks for the picture Rick, we got an idea how it looks like in the molecular level.

Releasit

Just got done doing he first job doing Releasit. After working with Spin Vac in the pads (after drying)they would drop what appeared to be sand, which I would think to be the crystals. Releasit did not do this. Although I want to say, I had great results. The thing I liked about it was the fumes were nothing like Spin Vac. Easy on the lungs! Do not want to hi-jack thread, but do want to say confining areas can be time consuming due to detailing, which has to be takin in cosideration while bidding.

Gary,

I'm guessing that what you were likely seeing sand dropping from the pads before. I've seen this occur too, even when I've used different products. I've always been under the impression that what I've seen dropping from the pads was sand. I believe the pads will catch some of the sand (not captured with the pre-vacuuming) that's embedded in the backing.

BTW the Edge Brush makes a quick job out of the edge detailing. In most cases the edges won't need much more than vacuuming, since traffic doesn't usually run right up to the wall. And if there is a section that needs some attention, the Edge Brush will handle that inch right along the wall real well.

Glad to hear that your first job with Releasit was a success! Keep up the good work.

I went to use a measuring cup today I had not used for several weeks. There was a white, HARD substance in it. What the ????? was it? Not Releasit, for sure. Oh yeah, a trial size of brand X encapsulator. The hard substance would not rinse out of the cup, either, I had to actually dig it out. End of trial, for sure.

I have had Releasit dregs in the other measuring cup many times. Either I flick it out with a fingernail, or rinse it right out.

So what? I dunno. But there IS a difference in the products, is all I know.
