Plush

Did a commercial plush the other day at of all places, a marble & granite co. Left Swirl marks in the carpet, which they were concerned with. I'm hoping they will go away after so many vaccums. The pads I had used were the hogs hair, which I had extra laying around. This kind of points me in the direction of keeping this method for tight weave low level loop comm. Think they will dissappear? Hope so. Went back to vaccumm an area with a vibra groomer beater bar (Eureka)and did not totally dissappear. Maybe I'm worryed over nothing. Second time I did one of these & people were worryed about it.

swirl marks

Gary,I had the same experience doing a plush carpet in a bank. What I do is rake it smooth with a carpet brush after I do a section while it is still damp. The first time I did the carpet I didn't do that and it left swirl marks that would not come completely out so I recleaned and groomed that area. When I have it available I use my old Carpetron foam carpet cleaner and just use the power brush to groom the carpet after I clean with the Cimex. It leaves the carpet swirl free. Hope that helps.

On commercial plushes and some residential plushes, you need to groom the carpet after it is cleaned- this goes for the Cimex as well as the Rx-20. Some plushes with loose-er top fiber like to lay with the direction of the rotating head and are tough to randomly seperate after dry. If you have a pile lifter I would run that over the area. Also slightly misting the area prior to running the pile lifter/aggresive vacuum with good brushes over it helps.

The problem seems to be less with Releasit then I have had with Spin Vac but does crop up from time to time still.

Easiest thing is to groom the carpet with a brush while still wet and save yourself some grief and worry later.

Derek,
No the FiberPlus pads are not hog hair pads. Hog hair pads are more aggressive than the FP pads.

Gary,
Good advice in this thread! Groom it while it's damp if you're concerned with swirls in a cut pile carpet.

If you follow Tony's advice to run a Pile Lifter, disconnect the vacuum motor first - even a little bit of moisture will fry that motor. Another alternative is to get a PowrFlite Ironside vacuum or a Koblenz (same vac). These can be run on slightly moist carpeting.

But I think your comment about worrying about nothing is probably right on the money. The swirls will disappear after a couple of days of vacuuming and normal foot traffic. I have actually been told by a customer that they LIKED the pattern that we left in their carpet. However most customers don't ever seem to even notice.

Here's another way to look at it --- you mentioned that you have a commercial Sanitaire vacuum. If you vacuum a cut pile carpet with your Sanitaire vac you'll also see markings in the carpet where the pile has been pulled in alternating directions. Similarly, the Cimex leaves patterns that show where the machine has been run on the carpet.

So Gary, I think if you explain the reason for the patterns and that they'll walk off in a couple of days - the customer should be OK with that.

Thanks for everyones help here. Customers see somehing new & they seem to think your trying to take them for a ride because its not HWE, even though I try in vain to convince them about the benefits. I do want to say I don't have as much trouble with the commercial carpet, after results. I will groom from now on anything other than comm. I do. I just happen to have a new Ironside, but I'm out of bags for it other wise I'd have used it. Didn't have any drying problems, grtting pretty good at dispensing the chem.

so hog hair pads might be used on comm carpet thats really trashed where the FB pads may not be as productive? if so, do you sell 7 1/2" hog hair pads Rick?

thanx --- Derek.

Derek,

Hog hair pads are slightly more aggressive. We used to carry them for the Cimex. The reason we don't carry them any longer is because they don't hold up all that well in a wet scrubbing application on carpet fiber.

The FiberPlus pads are fortified with an elastomeric property which gives them stability to hold up to carpet scrubbing. We tried a bunch of different pads from various suppliers before we landed on this one. These pads have a good degree of agitation, they won't damage the fiber, and they hold up well. So the FP pads are the only ones we handle.

Just thought I'd say, I just had these pads sitting around so I'd figure I'd use them. But the fiber pads are better, & last longer.
