Try to run the tank low at the end of the job. If the machine is gonna sit for a few days then you can drain it. If you're gonna use it within the next few days just add fresh detergent to the tank on your next job.

It appears that any left over if dry will dissolve again. What I see in my measuring cup, sometimes there is a bit dried and hardened in the bottom. When I add more, to make a fresh batch, the dried dregs seem to dissolve just fine. I have not seen any chunks as I pour the cup into the bucket when making a fresh batch.

I cannot speak from a chemist point of view- perhaps Rick can say definately it does re-dissolve- or not. But that's my experience.

Right on Gary, I see no need to worry about chemical left in the machine, if it contained a lot of solvents than it would a problem as they would evaporate over a period of time.
One manufacturer of encap products says that even if all the previous residue from his encap product is not removed with the vacuuming process not to worry as it will be re-activated with the next cleaning and go thru the same crystallization process again, it is this process that ensures me that I do not need to be concerned about any residue build- up in my commercial carpet maintenance jobs where we clean on a weekly cycle
