Encapping urine- again

June 9 2004 at 12:46 AM
Gary R. Heacock

So yesterday I picked up 4 rugs with pet urine in them. The rugs are all wool domestic, colorfast OK. Not too bad odor in them.

I put them face down first to clean the back, after vacuuming the face. I see just 4 or 5 deposit stains on the back, not too bad.

My intention is to encap them with Releasit, and see what they are like tomorrow, and if still a problem, I have time to do them the normal way.

OK, finish the backs, turn over.

Now, because of the urine not showing on the face, I don't know where the deposits all are. I mix a stronger than usual mix, and instead of the normal fairly dry shampoo method, I want these to get a real good dose, so I do a pretty wet shampoo, using the Fiber Plus Pads.

And also wondering if the Fiber Plus Pads and Releasit will do good on the fringes, I do my trick of tilting the machine so that the pad (or brush) is running over the edge of the rug, away from the rug, and scrubbing the fringe.

Finished, the rugs look pretty good. So does the fringes. I hang the rugs, and comb out the fringes. I will have to wait until they are dry to determine if the fringes will need more effort or not.

Tonight, coming back from an afternoon job, I smell the rugs up close. touch them. Still pretty damp after 6 hours hanging, because I got them pretty wet.

Fringes looks OK now, and a VERY faint urine odor still in 2 of them, 2 no odor.

I will post tomorrow when they are fully dry. So far, so good. A lot quicker than normal full immersion washing.

Chapter 2

Rugs still hanging. Dry. I smelled them. 2 were OK, 2 still had a slight odor, I can't tell exactly where the odor is coming from, so I gave them both a good dose of Bac-Out.

Appearance- all 4 look great!!
