Hello Brian.
I guess it depends on what machine that you use. Having the Cimex, it in no way endangers loose carpeting. You can do loose rugs and it wont wod' them up. Let alone any loose carpets or wrinkles associated with them.
That being said, I would encap it and just be careful.
You could inform the necessary parties about it needing stretched, and it would probably never get done. But they would want it cleaned. So I would just encap with caution, if you will.
You should be fine.

Brian,
I dont think that you will have any problems.
Start cleaning and just go that route. If you see that something is going wrong, then you can quit.
I am sure you will be fine. Go get it!
Then they can stretch it when you are done and they can get there.
Everyone is happy.

Good luck.

HWE doesn't shrink carpet. If the carpet has a plant or animal made backing, wool or jute, it can cause the carpet to absorb water and swell from over wetting. When it swells, it expands and pulls. Was the previous cleaning done with a portable? A lot of the time a carpet wasn't installed and stretched properly in the beginning. A hotel lobby probably get a lot of traffic and wear. I would think it is a toss up as to what caused the condition. If the carpet is made of nylon, rayon, polyester or similar material, it will look the same after cleaning. If it is made of wool or has a jute backing it will look worse until it relaxes and is restretched.
