umm...well...

I know that 1 horsepower = 745.7 Watts

and the 19" machine is 1.5 hp, which would be ~1119 watts

and W = V * A
...so, 1119 = 120 * A

so it should be 9.33 amps when running.

However, remember, as with any motor, you will get an amp surge
at startup...not sure what it will be, but it shouldn't be double...

we'll wait for Rick

Good info from Ken!

The 19" Cimex ordinarily runs at around 9-10 amps and at start up spikes to about 12-13 amps. A few things will affect current draw...
1) Is the circuit a clean circuit or is it loaded with other items on the same circuit?
2) Is the circuit breaker worn out?
3) Are you running an extension cord with the machine? (only use a HEAVY DUTY cord with discretion - 50' max)
4) What is the texture of the carpet? (some carpets are coarser and create more drag)
5) Are you running the gray Max pads? (the gray pads have more pull)
6) Are you lubricating the pads by lifting the head of the machine slightly and squeezing the solution when starting?

It's likely than one or more of the conditions is affecting your cleaning on this job since the Cimex can easily run on a 15 amp breaker. Do a little exploration and I'm sure you'll figure out what's affecting your current draw.

I don'thave one !

Rick, I was using my swing machine. I'm in the "maybe" mode for a Cimex if this job materializes fully, but didn't want same problem with it.

BTW did you get my email about Logo?

great post Rick. probably alotta Cimex users that dont know all the points you mentioned. good reminders / ideas to keep in practice.

thanx --- Derek.

BTW, my last job that i used the Max pad's on (the 1 that i posted the pics of at the machine shop...the blue carpet), at some points i would lift the handles up so that all the weight was on the pads, no weight on the wheels at this point, and the plate would completely stop spinning for a few tic's til i put the wheels back on the floor. this was because of lack of lubrication in my opinion, cause other times it wouldn't stop when i did this. does that sound about right as to my reasoning why? or could've my motor have gotten damaged or something? my Mex fell off my ramp a couple weeks back and smacked HARD on the asphalt, leaving a HUGE dent in the asphalt....left a dent in the side of the plate to lol...i was sick over it, but seems to run the same.
