Encap'ing Dyed Carpet

September 9 2004 at 4:02 AM
Derek Beyer

a hotel was fed up with 1 of the local SS companies, so the gal who handles house-keeping went with a local company named something similar to "color my carpet fibers"...they dont clean carpet, they dye it, all of it.

i am wondering if me running the Mex over this while Encap'ing could re-activate the dyes and cause a real mess.

any ideas Rick, anyone? thanx fellas --- Derek.

Most dyes on nylon carpet are pretty stable so you should be OK. But to be safe, do a test for color fastness first.

Yet Derek, I can't help wondering if this account will be worthwhile for you. They don't sound like a very choice account, more like someone who is limping along making poor business decisions. I'm only saying this because I've always felt it's the course of wisdom to try to sniff out the losers. A problem client may be more trouble than they're worth. I guess I've always tried to be like the marines when it comes to the customers we go after - "We're looking for a few good clients". Or as Steely Dan once sang - "Throw back the little ones, and pan fry the big ones, use tact poise and reason, and gently squeeze them". Just my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth. Wishing you all the best.

While I cannot consider myself as a top level carpet dyer, I have done some of this, and it is my experience that the carpet must be cleaned first before dyeing. If this company has a method of dyeing dirty carpet, that is a new one to me.

So... in my opinion, it is a marketing ploy, not a real method.

But I might be wrong.
