| i talked to gary heacock one time (via email) who said he really liked Releasit for cleaning uph... i failed to ask him a few questions (that i thought about later on).. so i thought i'd ask here....
after you prespray the fabric, how are you aggitating the prespray on the fabric? can someone suggest a particular mit or something to fit on my hand to use to aggitate? |

Whats up FH?
How goes in sunny CA?
What a coicidence. I just came in from doing two sofas and a loveseat. About all that I use is Releasit anymore, due to its neutrality of PH, and it works awesome.
For me, I have a few things at my side.
I prespray it on with a 32 oz. sprayer.
hand held jobbie.
I agitate with a couple of bruses that are what you buy in the hardware store. not stiff bristles by any means, but pretty soft ones. I also have a couple of white towells which I wipe them down with.
Today, I actually presprayed, agitated, then turned down the heat and pressure to about 200 psi on my Butler, and did a quick rinse on them, towelled them off and presto, looked great. I followed up with some soileze' protector from Rick. There were tickled to death. let me tell you. It was a plaid, syntyetic material. Most all of the upholstery that I do is general synthetic, 'blue collar furniture' LOL
the results are fabulous, and if I didnt do the rinse, I just felt the need to today, the dry times are real quick.
Any soft brush will work, even a soft towell if they are lightly soiled. I think you will like the brush better.
HOpe this helps.
Lets talk soon.

hey Steve!!
it's still hot enough to sweat over here in my neck in the woods. lol
i used to have a mitt kind of a srubbing pad that you could slip your hand in, i'll have to find one, it was pretty nice to have. i think Pro Line has them.
i have an Ultimate Uph machine (a portable) that i use for cleaning uph.
it seems like (from what i read) that Releasit is pretty safe on just about any fabric.
i was totally out of it Releasit and was waiting for an order to come in today (thank goodness it did)! i need to pay better attention to what i have in stock.
have a great weekend... i'm going out to dinner with my wife and friends... we need to forget about work for a few hours. lol |

I always aggitate my prespray into upholstery with a horse hair brush and then extract. Lonnie told that doing this with a sea-sponge is great as well.
BTW, Ray Moody uses a Mikita 600 RPM polisher and 7.5" cotton bonnets (thick, loopy type) to basicly bonnet clean upholstery with. He gave me one of these little bonnets but I haven't purchased the Mikita yet so I haven't tried it. He says it safely cleans upholstery great and he can clean a large sofa in about 10 to 15 minutes!
....interesting. |

Yes, Mark I read a post about that somewhere.
I have cut my time in half, and increases my results, IMHO< since I started encapping, yesterday, I did the sofa and love seat in about 45 minutes.
From prevac to protector. they were thrilled.
I would like to to try that bonnet style that you mentioned, Heacock does something similar I do believe.
interesting to say the least.

I have used a Makita angle grinder on carpet, but never on upholstery. I guess I'm afraid that even on the lowest setting, which for my adjustable machine is 600 rpm, that the agitation will be too much for upholstery fabric.
I heard that US Products makes a rotary pad hand held machine specifically for cleaning upholstery....lower torque, I assume...but they did not seem that interested in selling it to me when I inquired of them, nor did their local rep seem all fired up to sell me one. As a result, I can't even get a price for the unit. It could be 29 cents or 2 million dollars for all I know.
Would love to hear from someone who has used such a rig to do natural fibers like cotton or wool. Do they burn, snag or bruise the fabric, or clean and leave it in good shape???
As far as Releasit goes, I would still test, but have very little doubt that it would be safe for virtually all fabric.
Just to be pessimistic, it still may make CERTAIN fabric bleed. I've pretested some fabrics, and found that even plain water makes some fabric bleed!! Upholstery is not built as strong as carpet fibers, and that is not the fault of Releasit. End of story. |

I had (retired now) one of the US Products furniture and stair rotos, used it for some 25 years, thousands of jobs. Original cost was $600, and still sells for about that amount. My local distributor carries them. E-mail me if you want me to get one for you, and I will have them send one.
The speed of the motor is from zero to 1500 rpm. I normally ran it about 100 to 200 rpm. I never had a problem with snags or friction burns.
I occasionally used it for solvent cleaning, but mostly for wet cleaning. and yes, some 15 minutes to 20 minutes for the average sofa.
I used it for encapping furniture, I have some photos on my web site, and sent some to Rick.
All the material I used Releasit Encapsulating Detergent on came out just fine. Some I used a Cimex 7 inch Fiber Plus Pads on, some a 6 inch cotton bonnet, some both.
Take a look at http://www.heacocks.com/university.htm then click on Cleaning a chair and sofa with encapsulation, also below that sofas, rug and stairs.
