For You Folks That Live Up North...Cimex Storage QuestionOctober 12 2004 at 4:32 PM |

| i did a search on this but didnt find alot. have any of you who live up north like me, where the temps drop below 0 and the windchill gets near -50, owned a Cimex and stored it in your van for the winter? i read that Rick posted that the tubing has air pockets in it so there should be no problem, but i dunno how much freezing experience Rick has down yonder lol
looking for some tips, if any are needed, on how to winterize the Cimex. i plan on leaving it in my van if at all possible, and i dont plan on using a space heater...so she will be dropping below freezing from about December 1st til March 15th. maybe empty the tank and then pour a little RV antifreeze in the solution tank and let some dribble out the pad-drivers at the end of every day?
or is maybe just run the solution tank down to the bottom and then leave her be and no worries??
thanx for any advice fellas --- Derek. |

it does freeze in Indiana, so I will tell you what I do.
I run the solution down to as low as I can. Only mix up what I think I might need for a job. If I go over, I drain it out into a smaller cup, and pour it back into an old Releasit gallon jug, market Mixed, or something to designate that it isnt new stuff.
After getting it to the level below the strainer, I might vac it out with my TM or absorb it out.
Also, prior to this, i take the pads off and flush some water thru the line, with the cimex head down, and let the water drain out the tubing and heads.
there shouldnt be anything in the line now, nor the tank. nothing else can freeze. it worked for me all winter.

We don't gamble, all equipment is kept in our shop, summer and winter when not being used.
Rick I always get a laugh when vacationong in Florida and the temp is going down to the high 30,s and they are warning people to keep their pets inside to night. These Canadian dogs and cats must be some tough they are out in all kinds of freezing weather |

There are no sealed compartments anywhere within the Cimex machine. So there's really no part of the Cimex that can be damaged from expansion when the water freezes. That being said, I agree with the Dobster's suggestions above, since it's always better to err on the side of caution. Draining the machine before leaving it in a freezing vehicle overnight will give you the added peace of mind that nothing can go wrong.

ahhhh drat, not the answer i am looking for lol. anyone else that can tickle my ears?
OK, let's say i dont have the time to do what Steve said, or it isnt practical on a certain nite. what about the RV antifreeze Rick, will it damage anything? realizing i would have to flush it out good before the next job.
thanx --- Derek. |

hey goofy, read what you just wrote. LOL
if you are going to have to flush it one time, make it prior and not flushing out RV anything after.
Turdhead.
If that is the case. run the fluid out below the filter, undo the line after closing the valve, put the head down and blow on the line after it is drained outside somewhere, you will hear the air. then nothing is inside the machine, hose, or heads. it CANT freeze. I do this too. then wash your mouth out. dont want to encap your teeth.. but it does whiten them. LOL
and the fluorochem prevent food from sticking on them. Rick is trying to market Releasit and soileze in it to the ADA, american dental assn. LOL

OK GENIOUS!
yeah actually that sounds better...there will still be about a half inch or so of solution in the bottom of the tank, but that shouldnt damage anything when it freezes up huh?
thanx college boy --- turdhead. |

I don't think it is good for any of our equipment to be left out in freezing conditions, why not place a heater in your truck on those cold nights. |

Here is any idea. For the last little bit of liquid left in the tank you could dril and tap a small hole in one of the bottom corners of the tank. Tipping the tank to that size will drain it completely. Then just screw in a small bolt into the hole you just drilled and tapped.

Get you a gallon of winshield washer/antifreeze. Pull the tube off the head. Let the water out of the tank. Pour about 6 oz of windshield solution in the tank and forget it. I doubt if that little solution in the tube will hurt a thing when you start using the machine again -- Dwight |
