cleaning tile with a Cimex

October 20 2004 at 6:01 PM
forrest

so far i've only used mine for carpet.. i see Rick sells brushes for tile, i was curious how many here do that. i have a 15" OP Breeze machine that i bought from John with a brush to do tile, buti'm thinking that the 3 rotating brushes with the Cimex would work better.

also, what cleaners have you found to clean tile with that works well? i recently bought Stone Quest (intensive cleaner), but haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. do i feed this cleaner through the tank? or apply it with a sprayer?

thanks for any help

Hey FH
are you talking vct or tile and grout.
I have used the stripping pads for VCT , worked great with the Cimex and its agitation ability.
havent used any brushes yet on tile and grout.

I need to get some brushes for rugs though.

Be well

Good but not great

The brushes are great for light to medium scrubbing and getting dirt out of any groves or crevases within the tile. However, if you have grout that's pretty dirty or somewhat stained, the cimex brushes don't seem to be able to aggressively dig into the grout lines. Grout brushes work great in those bad situations, but your back will definitely take some abuse.

I use the Cimex for grout cleaning but only on large areas. I find it does a great job scrubbing and the best part is the solution is applied evenly and generously. I use Oxyblaster from Magic Wand for ceramic and porcelin. It has a high PH with a bleaching agents.

hey Forrest, whats up.
VCT is vinyl Composition Tile. the shiny 12 x 12 'wet looking' tile that you see in commercial applications, usually in the grocery stores. It is usually burnished, which is high speed buffing, and kept at a high gloss if maintained normally and routinely.

The Cimex will strip it well, then you have to triple rinse it, neutralize maybe, then start reapplying wax, about 5 coats or so, then buff or burnish it up to gloss.

There isnt much money in VCT care anymore. Rick can elaborate more on this type of tile as he worked with it for over 20 years i do believe.
That is why he is in CC now. LOL

As far as tile and grout, the brushes will work I am sure.
But I use my TM and turbo tool, a grout agitation brush, and Stonetech Pro products.
works great. I am starting to get this type of work more and more.
Check out John Rupichs tile and grout cleaning forum

http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/279673

it is very informative and John is the man when it comes to Tile and grout, If he doesnt know, he can def. send you in the right direction to find out. LOL
I actually bought his equipment to get started. John is a great guy and will set you straight and is always glad to help.

Hope this helps.

We do an increasing amount of tile and grout work. Cimex does kick tail for scrubbing grout lines. If the lines are very recessed, you may not be able to get deep into the line, which could be important. So a manual brush, Turbo type tool with truckmount or counter rotating brush may be a better fit. But for the surface of the tile, and for normal grout lines, it is excellent.

You can put the solution directly into the solution tank, but usually it needs dwell time anyway, so you need to spread it on the floor before you use the Cimex anyway. Use a mop or a sprayer. Let it dwell for 10 minutes or more. Then scrub it. Make sure to rinse out the solution tank before using Releasit, or you will experience some odd carpet reactions, especially if you do acid scrubbing.

We got the stiffer brushes for ceramic, don't confuse with the softer brushes for carpet. They are not interchangeable, but you could have a tech use the wrong one cuz they both fit. Ceramic brushes could tear up a carpet pretty effectively.

Tile & Grout

October 21 2004, 1:17 PM

With my Challenger Pad Machine (OP) I do tile & grout with
a brush that has 2 levels of bristles: shorter in the
middle, to scrub the tile; and longer at the perimeter, to
get down into the grout lines. Challenger sells it for, I
think, $50. www.challengerop.com

So okay, you have used your Cimex to clean the tile and grout.

Now what is the best way to remove the slurry remaining on top of the tile??

Bear in mind, I have not been down this track with a Cimex, and want to know the full guts of them before I do the job.

Cheers,

Shorty.
