| Anybody knows for any company, which does ONLY encapsulation for Residentials & commercials? I mean just VLM with encapsulation and NO HWE. Something like Deluxe carpet cleaning but only w/encap?

Well, I don't know about Deluxe, but we do mostly all encap now for residential. What we don't do is focus on residential carpet cleaning, though, if that is what you're looking for. But when we do residential, we almost exclusively use encap.
We do offer HWE if it is something they insist on. But most of the time they let me pick the method...so we do what I like better.
What are you looking to find out? |

i am in the same boat as Clay, but i do not offer HWE. i could but i'm sticking with VLM. in the spring i look to buy an OP machine and OP-cap for Resi work. i dont look for resi work but if someone asks, i will give them an inspection / quote.

Clay, I'm looking to find out if encap is a faster method than HWE, so we can do more jobs with less effort, and more money ofcourse.
I'm concerned that encap don't clean as well trash carpets like HWE,I mean for resi jobs, what do you think?
I have two CIMEXES for comm. and I found out that the CIMEX is kind big for resi, are you use the CIMEX for resi, or the new machines Rick and Larry sell, or GLS. I believe they are lighter than the CIMEX.
I use some bonnet with my RX, but not w/encap, so, I don't know if I mix the OP/encap method, or just go straight with encap machines like Cimex & X2 EncapMachine.

for myself i know that i dont have much experience with Encap'ing trashed resi. i've only done one resi berber that was in need of restoration HWE (high pH cleaning). i Cimex / Encap'ed it and it came out like brand new. i was shocked, if i HWE'ed it i could not have done a better job. i stayed in contact with the client and it remained looking great the last time i asked him. but that is just one time, i havent done it enuff to know if that is how it will always work. experiment is the best way for you to know yourself.

Hey Derek, if your looking for a good OP machine in the spring, check out the Challenger. We have both CCS machines and Challenger, and we prefer the Challenger ourselves. When you put both machines side by side 3/4 hp to 3/4 hp, there doesn't seem to be much difference in the real world as far as speed goes, however, the Challenger seems to be smoother and have fewer finicky parts such as cables, etc.
In regards to encapsulation being used on abusively soiled residential carpet. We do a lot of month end move outs and you don't get much more abusively soiled than that. Carpets seem to come out much better than with our truck mount. In fact, in the past year, I could probably count on 1 hand the number of times our truck mount has moved. The beauty for it is that you have faster dry times and fewer call backs for recurring stains.

hiyas Bro T
thanx ALOT for the comments, as i am considering either the Challenger or the Orbitec. i understand both have newer machines that are better in design than the previous versions.
i also am looking at (though not as seriously) the Hruby OP machine, but havent found much end-user feedback on that one.
the only drawback i hear about OP is that it is slow. is this true, relatively speaking? i can see the benefit of the X2 for resi Encap'ing...it would no doubt be FAST, but as i mentioned before i have to get over my paranoia of pulling a seam lol...when i think of it realistically, i shouldnt worry so about it...any vacuum with a beater brush will do the same thing, but any carpet conscience homeowner has a beater brush vac, i know i always have with no prob's.
thanx --- Derek. |

The orbital is definitely not as fast as encapsulation. If I was to rate it, I would say that it is
- faster than portable extractor.
- a tiny bit slower than a truck-mount.
- a bunch slower than a Cimex
- and I haven't tried the X2 yet, so I can't compare that for you yet.
Were you pick up the speed in residential against a truck-mount is that you don't have all the set up of hoses and tear down. So, you can actually be a little faster than a truck-mount over all. People love any kind of low moisture system here because you don't have to have the doors open and freeze the house down.
I've always said, if I had to start my cleaning business all over again, I would get, Releasit/Cimex, 1st Envrio Safety Any Floor 123/Challenger Orbital, and probably now Releasit/X2 and laugh all the way to the bank. You'll have almost no overhead, no truck-mount maintenance, you'll take in $100 -$200/hr of which it's almost all profit if your doing it yourself. You'll clean 90% of the carpeting out there to look as good or better than the guys that got a ton of cash tied up in a truck-mount. And the odd job that you know would be better serviced by a truck-mount, you could be a true professional and well respected for refering someone you know that runs a truck-mount and does a quality job. And I'll tell you honestly, there are VERY few that fit in this catagory. In fact, I can say that in the past 2 years I could probably count on my fingers the amount of times that our truck-mount has moved.
And with our lifestyles and goals, this seems to fit the bill perfectly Bro.

As most know, I offer all the methods. I use encap sometimes in the residential arena. Mostly on berbers.
I think that in that arena. flushing is a great selling point, not to say the 200 degree temps and the sanitizing effect that it has.
I use OP and pads/bonnets too for residential. There is an extraction process there, even if some refuse to think so.
I think the bottom point to remember that has been said many times before.. is that they are all TOOLS>
The more tools in your box, the better you serve and provide Value Added Service. That is what gets you refs and call backs.
I too agree that most of the time they will allow us as professionals the choice and trust us, but I feel that HWE is a residential thing, commercial too. There is a time and place for VLM, HWE and of course, ENCAP.
The task at hand is to know when to use each in their respective places. IMHO..
Happy Cleaning to all.

| Only one thing I don't agree with Steve | December 8 2004, 6:23 PM |
Don't get me wrong here Steve, but there is only one thing that I don't agree with in your statement. I too use a truck mount, but I think that there has been a long held misconception by us high heat truck mount operators, that we are somehow sanitizing the carpet because of temperature. The reality is that it has been proven by steamway and many other companies that, if memory serves me correct, even starting with live steam, we can only achieve approx. 172 degrees F at the carpet. I've been told by several scientists that it requires at least 182 degrees F for a substantial period of time in order to kill most harmful bacteria. And that's at the low end, a lot of bacteria requires even higher. So even if we could acheive say 190 degrees at the carpet, it's only momemtarily, it's not sustained. So sanitization from heat is not possible, however, we do acheive a substantial amount of sanitization with our truck mounts for the same reason we do when we wash our hands. It comes more from the flushing of water and the detergents we use. The heat also helps because it helps to suspend more bacteria and soil and then allows it to be flushed away.

Hi Rick.. Good post.
I would tend to agree with all that you said.
Makes logical sense to me.
And even with 200 degree temps at the van, we are probably getting about 15o to 165 at the wand. There has to be a drop in pressure and temp over the course of most hoses,, approx 150'.
I think that we can agree to that.
Good post.
Take care Buddy.

Most of the heat loss is once the water leaves the jet and hits the carpet, again as Rick said even if we do deliver hot enough water the cooling off of the water is a way to fast to have any real effect |
