Thanks Rick.

Much appreciated, some of us would like to hold something like this down under, so with that in mind, (I hope you don't mind), I have taken the liberty and put the link on the Aussie forum.

One question if you don't mind.

The photo titled:

Dinner at a Mexican joint - downtown Santa Cruz.

Who is the bloke sitting at the close end of the table??, opposite the kid going to sleep.

I'm having trouble explaining that I was not there.

Cheers,

Shorty.

Hi Shorty,

Glad to hear that our friends down under are checking out what's going on. Winterfest was fantastic. California is incredible. Of course you guys live in paradise too.

The cleaner you're asking about is Robert Hodge. Those are Robert's two sons sitting across the table. The funny thing is that we took two pictures - because his son was blinking in the first picture, and he blinked in BOTH pictures. So I gave up. LOL

I hope your plans to do something like this in Australia materialize. It's a lot of fun. Talk to my pal Gary Bethel, I'm sure he'll work with you on it. Take care

Yep - it was a great time!

Raf - I took the pictures with a Canon G3. I love this camera! It's easy to work with and it has good control of light. I got it mostly for indoor shots so I could get decent "before and after" pictures - like the ones at the skate center. It handles indoor lighting really well (as long as the settings are correct unlike my yellow photo - YIKES). Canon's current model is the G5. But if you can find a used G2 or G3 you'll be impressed.

Almost all cameras white balance when you turn them on. Hold camera level toward the area you want to photograph. Works perfectly almost every time when camera can set white balance correctly. Some image editors have picture fix for digital pictures, makes up for problems with lighting.

George, some cameras are slightly better than others when it comes to white balance. The Canon "G" series are about the best I've come across in the intermediate price range. I had a comparable Olympus and a Sony that weren't quite as good as the Canon.
