HWE/Encap CombinationMarch 15 2005 at 11:05 PM |

| HWE with Encap can work wonders on a HEAVILY SOIL IMPACTED carpet.
I cleaned a really heavily soiled commercial carpet on Saturday. I examined the backing of the carpet and instead of seeing white latex backing, the back of the carpet was solid black. No amount of vacuuming or pile lifting could extract the build up of soil from the back of this carpet. Years of heavy traffic and poor vacuuming had caused the backing of the carpet to become loaded.
I remember cleaning carpets like this with HWE before I discovered the Cimex and Releasit. You know the ones I'm talking about where you get the "morning after" phone call asking what did you do to my carpet? And you're simply left scratching your head because you know darn well that it looked good the night before. I lived through that scenario TOO MANY times in the years gone by.
Well this past Saturday I cleaned this deeply impacted carpet with the Steamin Demon. I went SLOWLY because I knew the carpet was holding a lot of soil. In the worst area I spent about 30 minutes cleaning a 240 sq ft area (approx 100 gallons of water). And as expected, the next day (Sunday) the carpet looked horrible. Brown, splotchy, YUCK!
The initial HWE step was beneficial on this soil-plugged carpet; flushing as much as possible was a good approach. There was a considerable reduction in the large quantity of soil the carpet was holding.
However thinking that I could be successful without an encapsulation follow up would "truly be insanity". I did a follow up cleaning yesterday morning with the Cimex and Releasit which left the carpet looking clean and bright. This two step approach provided deep restorative cleaning for an otherwise trashed carpet. The carpet now looks very nice!
Just thought I'd share this experience with ya'all.

The secret was you had time to allow the carpet to dry and wick back before you did the Cimex/Encap cleaning, this is a great way to clean trashed carpets. The preinspection in this case was the key and you realized going in that you needed to do some tough restoration measures. |

Rick
I agree with you 100%
We will use the rotary or the Mist and brush machine is to follow up after the Demon with pads either cotton or white polishing ones for the rotary or use the Mist and Brush.
As I posted on ICS the combo of both systems is killer
I was I am sure you know stirring the pot with my first post on ICS
I know the reason I do not have wick backs at my accounts from HWE is we do them so often and they have already been restored so it will not happen.
PS
it can be a nightmare with HWE alone.
I remember some long weekends until I started post padding.

Hey Rick. Whats up buddy.
I did the same thing last week. A little different I guess.
I had a trashed one. Used the Butler TM to extract. Brought in a rotary and post padded it.
Then grabbed some clean pads, thin type cotton pads, presprayed Releasit, and padded it in.
"padcapping'' I like to call it. It really brightened up and they custys were tickled to death.
It was a same day process. Sometimes that second trip, esp in a residential setting like this one was, isnt an option.
I thus used the post padding to dry it down quiker, an airmover while I did other rooms, then returned from the starting point and did the postpaddingencap steps.
Worked great.
Just yet another route and method to 'skin the cat' if you will.
Happy Cleaning and Success to all

Same here, on impacted soil the ol 1, 2 is the ticket, but you have to let it dry and wick on you befoer you scrub and run it.

I have a question. You didn't say if you Cimexed the carpet before the HWE. Just checking! |

Mark,
As a matter of fact I did pre-scrub with the Cimex. Forgot to include that detail. We ran Encap-Traffic through the Cimex to apply our pre-treatment with agitation prior to running the Steamin Demon. Agitation is a good thing. Then we ran the Steamin Demon till the cows came home. That machine can really pump water through a carpet! We were running the new 20" model of the Steamin Demon. It's a sweet machine for doing restorative commercial carpet care.

Yes David, I was running the handle in the reverse position a lot of the time this weekend. It was super EASY to run in the open areas that way.

| Rick, can I.........? | March 17 2005, 8:21 PM |
Hey Rick, there's a bit of confusion over the cimex/releasit in Aussie at the mo with some positive comments coming from the likes of Shorty.
Some of the die hard HWE guys are doin' their nana over it.
Can I ask you to post this experience on there to show that it has it's own place as well complimenting HWE in some situations?
Thanks, John

I too ran into the same situation. I RX-20'ed it with my truckmount first. Then a few days later I Cimexed it. Needless to say it turned out "Exellent", all pun intended, lol! So now if it need restoritive cleaning I follow the two step, RX-20 followed by the Cimex.

I use the combination in residential settings where there are many pet spots on looped Berber carpet. I HWE flushing out the pet spots real well, then come back another day and encap. The wicking from flushing the pet spots is fixed with the final low moisture cleaning using Encap-Clean. Of course I charge extra for this service. If the carpet is a cut pile I can use my spotting machine to flush out the pet spots and encap the job during the same visit, as wicking isn’t a problem.
Use the tools in your toolbox for the best service you can provide.
