| Still coming to terms with US/Aussie terminology.
John Guerkink's machine I think, is regarded as a OP or Oscillating Pad machine???
In my mind, I relate this to a Random Orbital machine, would I be correct here??
A Rotary is a rotary is a rotary, no questions.
It's only the rpm and hp that's different.
We also have rotaries with a shampoo tank mounted similar to the Cimex.
Pads are referred to as the white or grey pads that normally go under the Cimex??
These pads are of a synthetic property, graded by colour, white being the softest, up to black, being the coarsest.
I have also used a red pad, (normally used as a burnishing pad on vct), under my Orbital for carpets as well as the cotton & synthetic bonnets.
Bonnets can be made of cotton or synthetic materials, usually for drying carpet or for removing grease??
I also have a soft nylon brush as well.
Can someone please explain in what situations the above pads / bonnets / brushes are best suited with the rotary, etc;
Hey, if I don't ask, I won't learn.
That can cost ME, (and possibly others here), money.
Thanks,
Shorty. |

I used rotary machines before discovering orbital (OP) machines, which I definitely prefer.
I think all of the various pads you mentioned are interchangeable between the 2 types of machine.
One difference is that the synthetic (beige fibreplus pads, anyway) tend to break up faster when used
with OPs than when used with rotaries. The much higher level of agitation twists the plastic
fibers, which break off and usually require post-vacuuming. |

Hey Shorty.
My whole company reputation has been formed around the rotary. Nothing more. It is without a doubt the most versatile piece of equipment that a CC'er can own. I recommend one on every van in the industry. If someone would work with me for even one day, they would never clean without one again. And I am a HWE guy. Just not a 'typical' one. LOL
Under my rotary I use Ricks FP pads. The thin, cotton bath towel type pads, on occassion a bonnet, which I will refer to a bonnet being the larger thick, looped ones. I dont like these much.
Too unstable under the rotary. But they are OK> there are just better alternatives.
Most of the time, maybe 95% of mytime, I use the thin type pads referred to above. I get them from John G. I guess I can say that on Ricks forum. LOL Rick doesnt sell them. So that is where I have to get them.
I use them to pre and post pad carpets that I HWE> esp to post pad. That is what I am known for. I also pad in alot of water based protectors that if left after sprayed, dont really settle down into the fibers like say a solvent based protector will.
I use red synthetic pads, (worn out ones) from time to time to scrub N Run encap. I pick and choose the carpets that I do this on. They are a bit more aggressive. Be careful.
Like I said above, I use ricks FP pads, 17" ones, under the rotary. For some encap work and also for agitation. Most of my work in all scenarios,, is mainly with the thin cotton ones.
I hope this helps. Email me directly. Your email and description was a good one.
