Re: 400 or 800 rpm ?

For polishing any hard surface, concrete, stone, marble or granite; you’re going to want the 800 rpm unit (actually it’s 880, but normally it’s referred to as the 800). It can be done with the 400 but obviously it’s going to be considerably slower. The 800 was designed from the ground up for that kind of work. I hope that helps and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask, I’ll gladly do what I can to help you out.

Dave is right about the 880 rpm machine being built from the ground up for marble. It's the bomb for grinding and honing. However it spins too fast for powder polishing. So if you just want to have a single machine that covers all bases, the 400 rpm machine with the added weight set will work well for you (powder polishing at 400 rpm is great). But if you're aim is to develop a serious hard-core marble restoration business like Dave's in the process of doing, you're going to want to go with the 880 rpm "Diamond Finisher" model. And you'd also need an additional slower rpm machine with plenty of head weight for powder polishing.

http://www.mbstone.com has a stone restoration class. I enjoyed it completely - Maurizio is a fun teacher who knows stone. He has been doing it for a long time, and he knows mucho about stone care.

I know www.ntc-stone.com also offers training, but I have not been there, North Carolina.
