Got my first job

April 30 2005 at 11:12 PM

This Sat 5/7.

Small eye doc office, I just hope I don't make any mistakes.

Maybe this is the start of a new way for me to earn a living.

About an hour and a half for $65.00

Beats cleaning 27 class rooms a night for $9.00 per hour which is what I do now.

Wish me luck.

That's great. I don't know where you are, but, my truck doesn't move for less than $75.00.

Joe,
I started out in a school as night janitor too. Than it was head custodian, (more responsibility, no more pay). Than I started subbing doing floors for a janitorial co. 3 years later I bought it. now 4 years later, I just sold it, moving on to property managment full time and rebuilding houses. Its a great start to get your foot into alot of places. Doing floors, I have a $100 minimum and shoot for $75/hour. I've made $1200 in 6 hours by self before, sure beats school cleaning,

Good luck!
Brian

Funny thing

In re of my price.
When I gave the office mgr the price of $65.00 she said is that all.
Struck me funny when I got home, makes me wonder if I could of got more.
I always had a problem of selling myself short when I was in the office cleaning business.
Well, I guess the next job is a min of $75.00

Joe,

I'm just guessing here, but I'll bet you undercharged. But, you know what...who cares. Go in there and do an excellent job! This is exactly how I learned. Do a job, get ticked off at myself for not charging more. But, I've learned from each experience and slowly getting towards the prices I really want to charge.

Just do great work and then ask yourself when you're done, "what can I do better next time" on each detail of the job.

Best of luck!

Brandon

When I started 11 years ago I started by doing rooms for 9.95 per room. It gave me work and whole lot of practice. I now have 6 employees and run 3 trucks and we charge anywhere from .16 to .31 per sq.ft. to clean depending on size. Just do excellent work with great customer service and you'll reap rewards.

Joe, congrats on your first job. Finding your own pricing structure may take some time and trial/error. The important thing, I believe, is how you feel about yourself and what you're doing. The best way of pricing for me is by the square foot and I range from .12 to .40 depending on size, sector and frequency. It's great to know what your competition is doing and charging, but don't let your competitors determine your prices. I've been checking this board for quite a while now and I can tell you that there is alot of experience and some great cleaners here who don't mind helping. So my best advice, if you're just starting for yourself, is to check here regularly, look through older messages and -- by all means -- never hesitate to post ANY question you have. Again, there are great people here from all over who've been through what you're going through now and they don't mind helping. On that note, thanks to all the folks who've always responded to my posts. You've been a great help and reached far outside your own service area to make a difference for someone else.
