I am cleaning a flourescent (glow in the dark) bowling alley carpeting this Thursday morning. My plan is Realisit DS and FP pads. Anyone ever encap this type of carpeting. I will be using my Challenger OP. Thanks,

Chuck,

We used to clean a bowling alley with that combination - not a problem! Cleaned up great. The dye seemed to be pretty stable with the one we cleaned. The biggest challenges were pre-vacuuming (a total dump), and removing gum (about a billion pieces). The cleaning was actually the easy part. The bowling alley changed owners and we didn't pursue it with the new owners or I'm sure we'd still be cleaning it.

large volume gum removal - Question...

May 24 2005, 4:36 PM

would a steam/vapor machine be the best idea for a large volume of gum like that? if so, can someone describe step-by-step how they would do it with a steam/vapor machine?

i bought 1 for this but i haven't used it yet.

thanx --- Derek.

Gum/Steam vapor machine

If any of the gum can be pulled up off the carpet with your fingers, start by doing that. If your steam vapor machine has an attachment with a small round nozzle brush (under an inch wide), start the steam flowing and kind of polk around at the gum with the bristles, to soften it up. At that point you can probably work
most of it off of/out of the carpet with your fingertips. I then apply a little Goo-Gone citris-based
solvent, especially at the underneath part of it, and all or most of it should come up easily. If there are still traces of the gum left, put a little more Goo-Gone on a terrycloth pad, and scrape out the rest of the gum with your fingertip. Use as little Goo-Gone as possible, and when you are done, kind of agitate the whole area with a damp cloth to minimize any solvent residue.
