Citrus soap on carpet backing

June 9 2005 at 10:22 AM
Bo Newman

I've got a customer, who owns rentals, who says she paints a citrus soap on the back of carpet and it stops the smell of dog and cat pee.
She buys used carpet that is damaged and puts it in her houses.
Now, she wants me to clean a wool carpet that has been painted with the citrus soap and I think there's a problem with the soap wicking up.
Anyone hear of this sort of thing being done, and the possible problems.

Well, I went ahead and cleaned it. I said if the carpet turned purple it wasn't my fault and got a release from any responsibility.
I also suggested she let me clean the back of the next carpet and she agreed.
You meet all kinds.
But you know - I didn't smell any pee. I must be losing my mind.

Well, Rick, I did as you suggested and went to the shrink-site.
They asked me one question - "If I had one match and went into a dark and cold room with an oil heater, and oil lamp and a candle - which would I light first?"
I said "I would light the match first."
They said I was crazy - so I guess I am.

Well, I just got back from a job during which I thought about the whole thing (you have to think about something, you know).
I think the customer imagined the pee, imagined she fixed it, and imagined I cleaned her carpet.
I still got paid.
