You're joking, right?
If you've never called them C-ring pliers, you may call them restraining ring pliers, or snap-ring pliers.
Or, as some around here call them - plyars.

Spelling correction - retaining - not restraining

O.K. I thought you were giving me a hard time because I didn't use the official name of the pliers- I used the common name that people in this neck of the woods use.
Ordinary pliers will not work on retaining rings, or C-rings, (as I call them). Sometimes you can take pointed pliers, grind them to a small point, about the size of a medium size nail, and use that to remove and replace retaining rings.
I doubt that would work on the retaining ring on the Cimex because of the size of the ring. You'll need to buy a regular pair of retaining ring pliers (get the kind that can go external or internal). You'll see how to use them when you see the ring and the pliers.
Usually using the pliers and a flat blade screwdriver together help in removing the ring. You'll figure it out.
If you try it - good luck. You'll do fine.

Deke,

I guess you are referring to these-

You can buy sets with different size tips or you can buy them with changable tips. You can buy them reversable for internal and external rings. Can be had very cheaply from your local Sears.

Davo,

Well, Derek. I have learned there really are pliers called c-ring pliers that are not retaining ring pliers. I went on the net and what did I find - a picture of pliers like the ones you displayed.
I will never call retaining ring pliers "c-ring pliers" again.
Even an old guy can learn something.
