Gatekeeper Question

July 11 2005 at 11:09 AM
David

Ok, I just made my first ever marketing phone calls, I am stoked. I got 4 names and numbers out of 10, couple were disconnected, one was wrong number (my fault-dislexia on my part)

Anyway, I need a quick response to when they say "sorry, we already have someone who does our carpet cleaning" I remember Rick had a good one, but I can't remember. Any suggestions.??

Thanks,

It goes someting like this...

ME: I understand that you already have a carpet cleaner. Can I send you some information about our unique commercial carpet cleaning system?

THEM: Sure.

ME: Who do I send it attention to?

THEM: Bill Jackson

ME: Thanks

I mail Bill a sales letter and call back in a few days.

ME: Hi may speak with Bill Jackson?

THEM: What's this about?

ME: I sent Bill some information about carpet cleaning.

THEM: OK

(You see I'm asking for the guy who handles the carpet cleaning by name, so they assume I must be somebody Bill has been working with. And the GAtekeeper is the one who gave me Bill's name. Works like a charm most of the time.)

Now once I get Billl on the phone, it's time for me to do 2 things:
1. Plant the idea into Bill's head that I can FIX every single one of his commercial carpet cleaning problems because of our unique approach to cleaning commercial carpet.
2. Get Bill to allow me to come in to go over a brief presentation so that he can see what makes us unique and while I'm there we'll provide Bill with a free demonstration.

Badda Bing Badda Boom - We're in!

Another approach is to skip the initial phone call and just stop by in person.
Be prepared to do the presentation and demo right on the spot.

Keep in mind, it's a numbers game. Be prepared for some rejection.
But if you PERSIST it won't take long to wind up some nice accounts.

Last but not least, "Kick Your Own Butt"...
