| Hi all,
I am looking to buy a spirt in time(need to save my $)
In the mean time I have a 17 in swing with a tank and shampoo brush.
Its great for small areas. Can I use this to encap the small areas that the cimex can,t get to.
Would it be about the same as shampooing?
Thanks

Your rotary machine can be used just fine. You'll see better performance using it with a pad driver and 17" FiberPlus pads as opposed to using it with the shampoo brush. A rotary machine will certainly get the job done, it's just not as efficient.
To help clarify the difference between the two machines, here's a comparison between a Cimex and a rotary from the Equipment Page on this website...
What Makes The Cimex So Special
The Cimex has 3 counter-rotating brushes. The 3 brushes spin clockwise while the drive deck turns counter-clockwise. So it’s actually turning in both directions simultaneously (kind of like the teacup ride at the fair). Therefore it actually scrubs all sides of the fiber with each pass. To put this into context, the Cimex is over 6 times more efficient than a standard rotary machine. Three brushes spinning at 400 rpm as compared to one brush turning at 175 rpm means there's a 600% increase in cleaning aggression. In other words, if we were to clean a very dirty carpet with 3 passes using the Cimex it would require 18 passes with a standard rotary machine to accomplish the same thing. And since the brushes are counter-rotating, there's no tip bloom or damage to the carpet. The Cimex can clean 2,000 - 3,000 square feet per hour on the average.

The 17 inch rotary machine is fine for encapping, as Rick sez, just not as efficient or fast on larger areas.
And yes, it is "Shampooing".
I ran a 17 inch roto from 1956 until I retired last year, so can speak from experience.
And also like Rick sez, a Fiber Plus Pad is more efficient than the brush. The reason is- the FPP makes the formula more dry foamy, so it travels further and dryer on the carpet than the brush.
And, PLEASE do not refer to a rotary shampoo machine as a "Swing Machine", because swinging it left and right is the wrong way to operate it. The machine should be operated with the handle level, not up and down, and holding the handle level, use a push and pull motion, which makes the machine describe an oval on the carpet, and each oval should be overlapped 1/2 the width of the bonnet, brush or pad.
This motion will result in a far superior job than "Swinging" it left and right, handle going up then down.

I use a 20 inch 320 speed rotary to encap with.
I use beige pads to encap with, it does a great job not like a Cimex but
it got me over 30 chain stores

Gary, you are truly a treasure for this board. I have decided not to retire when I reach 70, as I previously planned. I have read the Bible cover to cover and could not find anything about "retirement" what is your take on this? I am not belittling you, just looking for a little justification. I really love what I am doing. I have sucessfully trained 9 individuals who are operating their own business. These are very rewarding, not monotarily, but, well you know. |

Who- Me?
Or is it- "What- Me Worry?"
Well, I guess retirement at whatever point the money and the sore back are equal- or something like that.
One factor is- retire when you feel like it. That's the nice thing about running your own business.
When I turned 70 in January last year, still going strong, I thought maybe this year.
The money was in place, and had been for several years, but I did not feel like retiring.
Anyway, in May or June, my son who was trying to build his business was at the point where he needed a Truck Mount, so I said, why not take over my business, all customers and equipment. He had to think about it, discuss with his wifey-poo, etc.
Finally, it was either he bought a Truck Mount from elsewhere, or bought mine, and then he could support it with the additional business from me.
Worked out fine. It's been a year now.
One thing to guys still working- ya gotta save SOME money, and invest it, in order to grow it to the point where when the time comes, it won't be cold dog food suppers.
And ya better start NOW!

save your money as Gary said...also invest in realestate and other money making opportunities...like a few on the bb's...clean but also sell on the side or vice-a-versa...to suppliment your income...then save. By all means...pay for your equipment and stuff CASH. Don't go broke buying everything you here bro cleaner recommending or using...soon enough you'll have a garage full waiting for ebay...but be ye wise in selection of cleaning equipment.
