| I know some of you have ran into duct tape residue on commercial nylon carpet.I have a customer with several 2 foot square duct tape "impressions" left on the carpet from asbestos containment work. I was thinking of using citrus gel, that I've used for gum removal, and thought I would ask our fellow cleaners opinions. The residue is about 4-5 weeks old. Thanks for any imput. |

We used Ricky G's PUNCH and a HOST machine with great results. |

I use WD40 all the time for tape residue.
spraying it on aerosol style, prevents it from sinking into the carpets fast. I towell off the sticky debris after agitating with a bone spatula, brush, etc.
Then towell it good and encap/releasit/Cimex combo right over it.
works every time.
I just did it today on about 20 linear feet, 2" wide residue in a wedding banquet room. where they tape over wires, etc.

If using WD-40, rinsing is of great importance here because The Wd-40 will leave a film behind. Remember what the W D stands for, WATER DISPERSING. Rinse rinse rinse, and when you think that is enough, rinse again. Other wise the film left behind will attract soil like a magnet.

Right.
to me, any solvent leaves a film behind.
Thats why I say to aerosol it on. agitate the tape residue.. towell up any residue that you can.
Then when you encap it, it will be fine.
I have performed this, thanks to Mr. Spot Contest winner Lee Stockwell, for about 24 months now.. never one time any residue attraction.
To use WD40 stand alone and not rinse or towell/encap over.. you're right.
Its what you do after using any harmful product that makes the difference.

Another point to made is sometimes the duck tape has been there for so long it hardens like gum will. Normally when this happens I'll use a wire brush and lightly scratch the surface to open up and expose the surface to be treated. This will help whatever is used to penetrate easier and faster than trying to let the chem break through the crust on its own.
Something else that can be a bear to work on, the waffle looking matts that are put down to hold a runner or throw rug in place on a carpet. This type of pad has a stickyness to it and will leave a very nice impression on the carpet suface. Something to be on the look out for and warn your custys this will happen. Throw rugs, runners, orientals or anyother type of decorative rug are not made to be put over carpets. Bad things happen when this is done. I had a lady awhile back put a nice Iranian under her dinning room table. The 4 legs on the table left a nice round mark in the Iranian rug that will never come back in original shape.
