| I am looking into encapsulation cleaning for upholstery. Wonder who has tried this and with what results. What are your procedures? Do you use the same products at the same dilution rates as you would for carpet? What types of fabric have you cleaned with encapsulation? Any potential problems to avoid? Benefits?

Hi Scott. I do it often.
I can't say as to when.. sometimes I just see something that I fear a little,, then I go encap or moisture barrier system that you and I talked about.
I love to go ENcap when its like WHITE. Saturday morning, i did three white pieces..
shame on me,, i didnt test the material.. but it wasnt the typical blue collared stuff that is normal around here.
I use the towell, soft brush for agitation, actually a couple of brushes of different strengths in the bristles, and a bucket of water, diluted with REleasit.
normal strength,, maybe a bit stronger.
I prevac good,, then dip the brush, and go that route,, sometims I mist with a hand sprayer and then brush.. followed by towelling off.
it works great.
I just play it by ear when I go this route. The benefits to me are that it works good and it dries quick. I think its almost always safe as there is minimal wetting of the fibers.
Disadvantages.. Not a true extraction. But I can live with that on upholstery if I prevac really good.
There is a difference obviously between the thickness of carpets and the ever so thin upholstery.
Besides that, I dont really know of any disadvantages.

I'd like to do encap on upholstery more. But one thing that scares me is the level of agitation needed. I use a horsehair brush for agitation on most uph, and some pieces are so soft they can barely handle that amount of stress. I think you'd really have to play it by ear to determine which fabric can handle it.
But...for those that are tough enough, it makes sense to use it. I just know you can't go nuts like you can on nylon glue down carpet, gotta take it easy. |

Scott, why are you looking into this as you have sold your business? I do it on every piece of furniture we clean and have post many times as to how I do this. It is the fastest and best way to clean furniture, but there are a few cautions. |

Rambo - You are correct, I have sold my business. Not looking to encap upholstery but considering writing about this subject for a future Cleanfax article.

I have been having pretty good success using Releasit through my Von Schrader upholstery machine.
Does anyone else use the VS-2 in this manner, if so, what are your results.
This is the old VS, not the newer, flash murray one.
Cheers,
Shorty. |
