Steamin Demon XL

August 22 2005 at 9:19 AM

Tad

Hello to all,
I have become curious about the new Steamin Demon XL but like most of us carpet cleaners I also have reservations.

About how far from the “slop sink” can I clean in (feet please) also do I need to have a helper “WATCH” the water and pump out hoses so that I don’t start a water damage project? What type of water hose is recommended?

Second do we spray the Releasit Encap-Punch solution down with a pump–up sprayer? Then use the XL to flush out?

How can I justify spending another $3,000.00 to have the “complete commercial carpet cleaning system?”

OK I know -I know “it’s another TOOL in my cleaning kit” RIGHT

But will “IT” be limited in its use? Like going into a small office & around the furniture?

Will I have to post bonnet or encap - double process? Or pre- scrub with my Cimex then use the XL?

Does anyone have pictures or a video of the XL @ work in the real world.

I have to add that I’m anxious to see what Rick Gelinas is going to add to his equipment lineup 4,5, &6.

BEST TO ALL

Good questions Tad!

The Steamin Demon can pump out water "up to" 150 ft from the machine. It comes with a 50' hose set. You can purchase additional hose lengths and add them to get more distance. If you have a need to go beyond 150' you can have your machine fitted with a second pump out, and you'll be able to run an additional 100 feet of hose bringing you up to 250 feet away from the water source.

Do you need to have someone babysitting the pump out hose? No. Just make sure it's secure in a janitor sink, or in a toilet (you can put the seat down on top of the hose). No special precautions are really needed, just use common sense. Situate the hose so it won't get bumped. It's not going to work its way out of the sink all by itself.

How to use the Steamin Demon? Yep - it's HWE. And HWE is generally going to be problematic on a CGD (commercial glue down), that’s just the nature of the beast. So we can't expect the SD to eliminate the common HWE problems. If wicking problems were going to occur with a truckmount, it's going to occur with a SD as well. So yes, post-padding, or follow up encap cleaning may be required.

So what can a Steamin Demon do? It pumps copious amounts of water through the carpet. It pumps three to four gallons of water per minute through the carpet and recovers it. It’s nothing short of amazing how so something so simple can accomplish so much water flow. If you have a carpet that would benefit from massive flushing, the SD is your baby. Not even the biggest and baddest fire breathing truckmounts can equal the gallons of water per minute that the SD can achieve.

Is the Steamin Demon the right machine for everybody? No. Is it a SERIOUS tool for contractors who specialize in commercial carpet cleaning? I'd have to say that is a definite YES. For a moderately reasonable price tag you'll have the ability to deeply flush any carpet. And when you consider how compact and lightweight the SD is it becomes pretty attractive IMHO.

How does it move around in tight areas? It’s light and nimble. Obviously the 20” model that I really like is a little large-ish for tight areas. So if you see yourself doing a lot of small stuff I’d suggest going with the 15” model. Personally I consider the Steamin Demon to be more of a restoration tool. I’d only be using it in situations where I want to flush the mess out of the carpet. As y’all know, I’m an encap cleaner. The only place the SD comes into the picture in my mind is when I see a need for serious flushing. In which case I’m only going to need to concentrate on the open areas. Flushing every corner is not really required in this scenario. The 20” model is perfect for these conditions.

You can use Encap-Punch in a sprayer as a "Pre-Spray" application. Or you can run it through your Cimex and apply it as a "Pre-Scrub" application. I'm partial to the "Pre-Scrub" application because you get the added agitation. BTW ever since we tweaked Encap-Punch we've been only getting positive feedback about it.

Hope this answers your questions satisfactorily Tad.

P.S. I forgot to mention this. You can also run a hose and a wand off of the Steamin Demon. This is handy if you want to wand tight areas. You can also run an upholstery tool off of the SD. Bob Wittkamp has reported that he even runs his RX20 off of his SD (sounds crazy I know - but he says it works).
