Avenger questions...

November 7 2005, 12:42 AM

i'm curious Rick, how nimble is this machine? is it only good for wide-open spaces (aka, no offices / cubicles)?

how much does it weigh?

does the exhaust put off any noticeably irritating noxious fumes?

this type of "heavy" equipment is totally foreign to me.

thanx --- Derek

Derek, just pay a visit to your local Kroger, Lowes or Home Depot store after hours and you will see machines running every night that are almost like it. Tell them you would like to help them one night for free and you will learn alot about this type of equipment.

Not for low ceilings

November 7 2005, 11:10 AM

Ran Honda powered buffers for years but would not recommend using for long periods of time in buildings with low ceilings. No longer comfortable with prolonged use of propane powered equipment as I once was. Big open buildings however would be great.

Safety & Features:

November 7 2005, 3:10 PM

The Carpet Avenger is a propane powered machine intended for commercial cleaning applications only. It has been configured with a clean burning propane carburetor and regulator, designed to produce low emissions for safe indoor operation. However even with low emissions, the machine will increase the level of carbon monoxide inside the building. So be certain to maintain circulation to the building by running the HVAC system, and increase fresh air. Of course you'll want to avoid scrubbing very small buildings that have a limited volume of fresh air inside the building.

Propane powered engines are used indoors because they're considered to be safe enough for an indoor environment. However propane engines still release a low level of CO (carbon monoxide), so it's important to use a measure of sound caution. The propane powered 11HP Honda engine releases CO at what is deemed a "safe" level for indoor use. To put this into perspective, propane powered buffers are used all over America on a nightly basis to buff floors in various sized buildings. These buffers run on propane because they are so much more powerful than any kind of an electric motor, and they're reasonably safe to operate (with proper care). Just like a floor buffer, the Avenger benefits from the POWER of using a combustion engine too.

Here are the features of the Carpet Avenger...
~ 21” Bonnet Style pad driver which accepts any 17” bonnet or pad of your choice.
~ Pad driver turns at 218 RPM with engine at full throttle.
~ 11HP HONDA Propane engine with 110 volt electric start.
~ 7.7 gallon rota-molded solution tank
~ Shurflow pump, 12 volt. 60 psi, with Viton valves for long performance.
~ DELVAN nozzle with .3 gallon per minute rate of flow.
~ Fully adjustable handle and drop-in bottle carrier for increased operator comfort.
~ Die cast powder coated aluminum frame for a durable design.
~ Shipped with a 80% Steel Propane Tank
~ Machine Weight – 215 lbs. Shipping Weight – 285 lbs.

Is it nimble? Derek, the Sprint is “nimble”. This is a monster scrubber. It’s too large for “nimble” cleaning in a small office. But even in a moderately smallish store it will work nicely. For example, there are cleaner’s using the Avengers in a large national chain of average sized family shoe stores. I would recommend the Avenger for anybody that services average to larger sized jobs in their lineup.

Avenger -VS- Cimex!

November 8 2005, 12:24 AM

OK, it's probably a safe guess that most of us don't realize any possible benefits the Avenger has over the Cimex (if there are any).

Rick, i am guessing it cleans faster than the Cimex. does it also do a BETTER job at agitating the tuft bundles, thereby giving better encap results aka visually cleaner carpets??

because of the extra weight, might it clean better han a Cimex? like a Cimex encap cleans better than a rotary?

thanx --- D.

Both machines can get the carpet clean, thereby producing the same end result. The difference is in the production speed. As you know already Derek, the mighty Mex has terrific scrubbing ability with its 3 planetary scrub heads. The Avenger doesn't have a planetary design, it's a rotary machine, however it's a rotary machine on steroids. It has much more head weight. And it's got tremendous torque! What is the advantage of torque? Let's compare it this way. In scenario one we have a strong portable coupled with a Rotovac, in scenario two we have a fire breathing truckmount with a wand. Which will clean at a higher rate of speed? Obviously, scenario one has more agitation, yet we recognize that scenario two will clean at a faster rate because a combustion engine produces far more raw power than we can ever hope to draw with electrical current into AC motors. Plus there are no cords to deal with on the Avenger either.

Another way of looking at it is this. Why do you suppose that all the grocery stores, department stores, drug stores, auto parts stores, etc in America - use propane buffers rather than electric buffers? Quite simply it's because a propane powered buffer will out-buff an electric buffer every day of the week. If you compare an electric high speed buffer to a comparable rpm propane buffer, a propane buffer will burnish many times more sq ft of flooring than you could burnish with an electric buffer in the same rate of time. And this is why it's possible for the Avenger to clean at twice the rate of speed of the Cimex. Each machine is perfect for its realm of cleaning. For day in day out commercial cleaning the Cimex is awesome as you already know. If larger jobs are what you're going after, the Avenger would be a good machine to consider.

So, Rick, a cupple questions since this seems like the logical time.

1. How much does Bubba the Big Mo-sheen weigh?
2. Do you need to check/inform clients who have carbon monoxide detectors to reduce the settings? Or am I imagining that it could be a problem?
3. Do you use Fiber Plus pads of a larger pad size for carpet cleaning?
4. I'm not sure I'm reading you right. 218 RPM? That's slower than my Cimex, no? How come a stronger motor can't spin her faster? Or is the added weight bearing down enough to create the same effect as faster RPM?

Thanx!

Good questions Clay,

1. Machine Weight – 215 lbs. Shipping Weight – 285 lbs
2. If the building has a CO sensor/alarm (not very common) you may want to have them turn it off or you'll likely set it off.
3. Yep we have FiberPlus pads in various sizes... 8" for the 19" Cimex, 10" for the 24" Cimex, 12" for Oreck Orbiters, 15" for rotary machines, 17" for rotary machines AND THE AVENGER, 19" for rotary machines.
4. A Cimex can SAFELY spin at 400 rpm on the carpet because of its planetary design. On the other hand, a rotary machine (such as the Avenger) wouldn't be as safe for the fiber at 400 rpm.

So how does the Avenger produce such high production?
1. HEAD WEIGHT: There is close to 200 pounds of head weight when the machine has a full tank of detergent.
2. IT'S CORDLESS: No explanation needed here. Just imagine scrubbing and never having to bother with a cord.
3. TORQUE: (copied from the post above)
"What is the advantage of torque? Let's compare it this way. In scenario one we have a strong portable coupled with a Rotovac, in scenario two we have a fire breathing truckmount with a wand. Which will clean at a higher rate of speed? Great questions. Hope I was able to answer them OK for ya.
