smoke from new 19" cimex

Last night my helper, using my new cimex after putting on new max plus pads forgot to wet carpet before starting machine. Of coarse it would not budge and began to sqeele. He turn it off and started again but this time he finally got it going but it started really smoking even after the pads started to turn and clean. This machine only has a few hours on it surely it can't need a new belt. I had to go accross town and get my old one, which has never squeeled, smoked or needed anything, to finish the job. Any ideas as to what to do? I have some jobs coming up this week and I don't want to carry both machines on truck and of coarse the new one looks better so I want to use it.

Thanks

Interesting I was unaware that the new Cimex's came with a bar-b-que option.

This is the way we start the Cimexes EVERY time. The pads are raised off the carpet before turning on the machine. The solution is then turned on while the pads are still in the air and then the pads are lowered to the carpet. This method does not allow any strain on the motor or have dry pads turning on the carpet.

One of my units is over three years old and it has never had any problems at all with its belt. Of course you’ll want to keep in mind that I routinely run anywhere from 240 to 305 pounds of weight on it as well – never a problem. That might be because we ALWAYS press backwards on the handle taking a lot of the weight off of the head before we start it up.

My suggestion is three fold; 1) Ask if Rick can over night you a new belt so you’ll get to run your shiny new machine this week, 2) Retrain your helper how to operate the equipment properly, & 3) Keep that old belt around as a reminder to your helper as to how it costs you money when he doesn’t use the best judgment. I can identify all to well point #3, last week on a job one of my guys disconnects our hi pressure porty at the end of the day, including pulling our drain line out of the drain pipe behind the homeowners washer. (Can you see yet where I’m going with this?) He neglected to reconnect the washer drain line. The homeowner discovered it when they got home from dinner. The problem was they started a load of laundry before they went to dinner.

Sounds like a cooked belt. Ray and Dave's advice about tipping the machine is good advice. This is how we recommend starting up the machine. It sounds like the belt has been damaged. Give me a call on Monday and we'll get you back in business lickety-split. Sorry you're having a problem.
