Need your help on pricing a bid!

December 7 2005 at 5:50 PM

Joe

Bidding on a commercial job - small office building (3 floors) w/glue down. What I need to know is how much to charge for vaccuming per sq ft - In all my other comm. jobs the maintenance crew usually prevacs, so I only bid on the actual cleaning (encap)

I dont want to guess and then over/under charge - I just need a ballpark, then if i do the job I can determine what I should charge on other jobs..

Thanks for a timely response - preparing the proposal later on tonite!!

When we use the cimex we always do the vacuuming, it is included in our price.
Have you ever looked at some of the vacuum cleaners these maintenance crews have? Just my two cents.

Darwin makes a valid point. We've never added vacuuming as a separate line item either. We just figure it into the price for the job. What type of pricing do we factor in for the vacuuming? I generally consider it to be in the range of about .02 per sq ft. That means if we're planning to charge .11 per sq ft for encap cleaning, we would bid .13 including the vacuuming. This rate will generate a fair margin for the vacuuming.

Hope this helps.

I also include it in the price I have a wide area vac that works great so I can cover a lot of ground quickly. I agree
with Darwin and in my case they have good vacs it's just that they only do about 1/2 of the floor (miss the rest)

You might want to look at the competitive situation.

Is the current janitorial staff not vaccuming because the owner assumes you will be cheaper than they will? Or has it not occurred to him that it would be less expensive to have them do it.

Cleaning services that do janitorial can do vacuuming for much less than you can.

If you do that part of the job, it would be good to know why.

If your competiton is not planning to vacuum and beats you for that reason, your customer should know that.
