i have been for the past 18 months. am considering buying a MiteyOne HWE spotter for upholstery and the occasional spot that i'd like to flush before Encap'ing or OP'ing.
Danny, didn't you used to use a M-1? what do you use now to take it's place?
on a side note, i bought a GEM polisher new off of eBay a month or 2 back and ordered velcro for the pad driver from Challenger Pad Systems. today i got to use it for the 1st time...it is my new stair tool. i pre-scrubbed with a 17" FP pad and rinsed with cotton...the results were fantastic, i was surprised at how much better they came out than i had thought they would.
it's the smaller aqua-blue colored GEM, not the slightly larger brown one. while it did bog down slightly on steps when i applied pressure, it has a bit of weight on it's own and didn't need my extra pressure pushing down on it...the oscillation does the work. the larger brown model might be more powerful, i am not sure. but i also think it is a little larger in diameter...that would be too big for me on stairs i think. as it was, the aqua-blue polisher was almost half on / half off of each step.
the landing was their retrievers sleeping spot, and the matted down tufts stood right up and were bright & clean in appearance.
thanx --- Derek. |

I started my service in 1990 using a Windsor 12" CBM called the Dri-matic. Soon "upgraded" to an Argonaut. Spent some time dallying with Von SChrader
machines, both the VS-1 and what I call the double-wide, the Mach 12. Added 17" and 19" rotaries. Next discovered OP via the Oreck LowBoy. Several years ago (after several years of frustration with Oreck products) I learned of the Challenger, and bought one, the a second. Love the Challengers as much as I hated the Oreck LowBoys. Within the past year added a Cimex 24" model. Will
soon take possession of an Orbitec 20" machine with on-board sprayer. I want to see how it compares in large facility jobs with my Cimex. On stairs I use a $25 Sears Craftsman auto orbiter/polisher with a 6" piece of velcro glued on. It makes a nice, fast, surprisingly durable, and lightweight tool. All residential work, and some small-to-medium work, is now done with Challengers.
Big commercial jobs with the Cimex. Guess that makes me all-VLM, all the time. |

What does VLM really mean to you?...Do you use it referrence to how much moisture is being used upfront of the cleaning or at the backend?Either way you can VLM clean with a TM.VLM itself does not automatically dictate a particular machine but more so a "style" or thought process in the actuall cleaning taking place. When using my TM,whether its' in conjuction with or without say... my Challenger,I almost always have the PSI set to 200/250 so as to use what is neccessary;Very Little Moisture.Over the last year I have barely used my Hydroforce instead,I have been calling on my electric Multi-sprayer-again less is more. Also the use of less-moisture dependant products brings the level of actuall H2O down even more.Just my thoughts.

I used to be a VLM only guy, started with Host, whew! that is a tough way to make a living, but hey dry in 30 mins!
Then I picked up an OP and Mighty-One, that was a big inprovement, but if I had to do that lil' part over I would have bought Ed. Valentines middle machine instead, it's like a Mighty-One but larger tanks, that way you can actually finish a sofa and chair. One hour dry times..woohoo!
Then I got a TM, then I got a glide and 1-2 hour dry times.
It's not how much water you start with, it's how much you leave that defines VLM.
