Question for rick

December 20 2005 at 6:33 PM

Joe

I thought I saw some info somewhere (Maybe here) about the history of encapsulation, and how dupont came up with it years back. Can you give me a little history? The reason being is that when I mention to prospects that dupont came up w/ this technology, it sort of gives it some validity...

Thanks!!

Joe

PS Thanks for the info about the drive pulley, I will place the order soon...

The Story of DuPont, Resistech, Invista and Others

December 20 2005, 11:30 PM

DuPont was one of the first companies that I'm aware of to explore encapsulation. It's kind of ironic, DuPont has always extolled the virtues of HWE cleaning, and then when they decided to enter the commercial carpet cleaning business they concluded that encapsulation was the answer. I actually discovered that DuPont was performing encapsulation at about the same time that I was learning about encapsulation for my own cleaning business. Recognizing that DuPont had resorted to encapsulation certainly helped me to appreciate that I was traveling on the right path pursuing encapsulation technology.

DuPont made a strong attempt to enter the commercial carpet cleaning market nationwide. They set up a company called DuPont Commercial Flooring. They used highly aggressive tactics to muscle into major metropolitan markets. And they succeeded to penetrate many of the major markets throughout the country. DuPont's history with encapsulation was disrupted however. When they sold off their carpet fiber production to Koch Industries they also parted with their carpet cleaning enterprise. The new moniker for the Resistech empire thus became "Invista" with new owners of the company at the helm. I'm not sure there's quite as much interest in their maintenance services as there had been before, when it was run under the DuPont brand.

Here's a PDF link with information about the original DuPont Resistech...

And here's a PDF link featuring the new Resistech program under Invista...

In addition to DuPont/Invista, Interface Carpets also implemented their own encapsulation program called ReSource. And Collins & Aikman is promoting their in-house encapsulation program under their Syon-5 label.

Rick, how do you get along with John Garger at LMCCA BOD meetings? He sure didn't like the Cimex being used on the airport here, said it would "VOID" the warrentee as they viewed it as a "Rotary" system.

John's a super nice guy.

Many people have never really looked close enough at the Cimex to understand that it's a planetary machine, NOT a rotary machine:

Tell ya what...
Let's place a Cimex, a cylindrical brush machine, an OP machine, and a rotary machine on a section of wetted carpet. Turn the machines on and run them on the same spot for 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. Then compare the damage to the fiber. I GUARANTEE the Cimex will not have left any perceivable damage to the fiber. The same can not be said of any of the other machines (including the cylindrical machine they highly recommend).
