I have been in the concrete resurfacing and staining bus for about 7 years. Looking to get into carpet and floor cleaning. Where does one go for training in this field? Thanks

I would love to talk to you about carpet cleaning and
training. We can swap information. I am looking at
some concrete jobs and need additional info on that subject.
I'll send you an email.

Gregg

I’ll be in Atlanta doing a small concrete job this weekend for a friend at his house. I will also showing some other guys and gals what I know about concrete polishing and staining. Tell you what, how ‘bout you stop by and we can tell you all we know about carpet cleaning and you can share with us all you know about concrete? Deal??? LOL

No in all reality if you can get by it’d be great to have you; but if you can’t and you have any carpet questions – ask away. That’s why Rick put this board together, to try and help out as many people that he could. Let us know if we can help.

we all think the grass is greener on the other side.Decorative concrete has its good points, like great profit margins but customers can drive you nuts with patterns and colors.Weather is an issue too.Staining is very unpredictable and people think concrete is indestructable only to scratch the sealer moving a chair. Coating failures can also be a nightmare. We are going thru one case now and it makes me not want to be a business owner anymore. Guy tore up an epoxy floor with hot oil from fryers, leaving soy and peanut oil on the floor and wants to blame us for his employee slip and fall and melted coating.Calls me 6 months after the floor is installed. Jeezzzz.

How do you guys cope with the companies who pull up in van powered units knocking out a 4 bdrm house in a couple of hours for $199? How can a little guy make money with a Cimex and vac competing with that?
I cant be in Atlanta but I would love to come to a scheduled event on polishing and staining using the Cimex machines.

I hear your pain Gregg.

I got a call one time 4 yrs and 11 months after some fat little white trash kid was running up and down the isle of a grocery store that one of my guys had just mopped. My guy told him not to do it and that the floor was wet, there were also wet floor signs at either end of the isle. Bet you can’t guess what the statute of limitations is on a slip and fall.

Unfortunately you’re gonna have an occasional pinhead no matter what. I just had a very wealthy guy try and stick me for $6,600.00 on a marble restoration job – he paid.

Going back to your post, that is one thing I do not understand. Why do some guys put a topical coating on a stained & polished floor? Topical means sacrificial. There is no coating that I know of that is as hard or as durable as polished, densified concrete. Yes in time anything is going to wear, even concrete. But it seems it’s going to take a lot longer than a coat of plastic and when it does wear just run back over it with diamonds again. I know you have a lot more experience than I do but that is has always been something that I couldn’t figure out.

Most stainers dont have the equipment to polish. The investment in diamonds, vac, and machine is $10 grand to even start vs a bucket of sealer, roller cover and frame.Plus the solvent sealers really bring out the color of stained concrete.
