Couple of Cimex hardware questions...

April 7 2006 at 3:38 PM
Derek

i've had 2 small glitches for a couple years now and i continously forget to post about them, though it's no big deal. maybe some of you have had this happen and can let me know what you do to fix it.

the pin in the rear of the machine that adjusts the angle of the handle and sol tank, mine falls out every time when i'm driving around in the van. the handle / sol tank then bonks into the Hoover Conquest i have behind it, which makes it hit the side of the van. i've taken to pulling the pin out slightly and resting the handle against the vac to save it the bonk (if i can remember).

also, the pin is pretty fickle when i am trying to set the handle at a certain height. when my Mex was new, the pin would slide into the correct spot smoothly. for some time now, i have to jimmy it (no offense Rick ) to get it to slide in.

any ideas? --- Derek.

Derek, there should be a set screw that holds the pin in place. If you can remove the pin that means the screw came out. With the screw in place the pin stays put. The screw hole is in the pin. Rick can send you a set screw. Just insert the pin, fit the screw through the samll space in the handle and you're done.

I think Mark is our gold star winner for the week (kudos to Mark).

Give me a call Derek and we can get you fixed up for less than a million dollars.

Mark, BRILLIANT!

perfect Rick, my budget for this project was 900k.

well, i am guessing i might be able to take the pin to a hardware store and pick up a stainless screw to fit perfect.

to think i could have fixed it years ago...

always tryin to over-complicate things --- Derek

This has happened to me two weeks after i got the Cimex. Solved that problem by using loctite on the set screw. Over a year later it has not come out.

George is right, Loctite. The screws are available at most Lowe's. Do not go to Home Depot. Lowe's is not in the carpet cleaning business.

Check the screw that holds the on/off knob on. If you loose that knob, its pricy, Luckily the guy that rented mine found it in his van later in the day.
