| After receiving NUMEROUS complaints about another company here, re-doing/fixing his jobs, and advising my new clients of how to handle the situation...I got a phone call from the man himself. Unbelievable! Turns out that his time is up and he's going out of business after 5 years! He offered me his NAMCO beast on a trailer, all his commercial accounts, ads, everything, for 9K. I thought it over, and went to look at his stuff. While on the way to his place, or should I say his moms place, I decided that i was going to shoot him an offer to purchase only his name, number, accounts, and advertisement that came out yesterday in the YP. Hahahaha, he took my offer of 2K for that, and I just had an additional 20-30K in business dropped in my lap. Actually, my girlfriend is going to run his, or, my new company for me! I pick up a restaurant of his (Red Lobster) beginning tomorrow...Cha Ching, another $430 a month, plus I gained a new property manager as well. I might actually feel sorry for this guy if I didnt know how he treated his ex-customers!!
UN FREAKIN REAL! Hasn't even been 10 months since our first job, and growing out of control!
Over 200 residential clients, and 14 commercial accounts going
Is this normal?

Congratulations on the acquisition. You're a wise man to pass on the equipment, especially the Namco unit. You were also wise to avoid paying too much for a "name" that has a questionable reputation. First thing to do is mail the client base a letter of introduction explaining that you are the new owner and stress QUALITY in the letter. Did you also have him sign a "no compete" agreement. If you didn't have him sign one, high tail it back over and get that done right away. I hope the new venture goes well for ya!

He's on his way to Washington State to become a Realtor. I guess this all has to do with a divorce, and he tried to BS us with a few details, but i clearly saw right through it. I have anticipated him going out of business due to his practices anyway, and ironically enough, was just talking about it 2 nights ago. I am changing the name, but keeping the number the same so his regular customers can still contact us. As well as sending out mailers and flyers stating that the company has been sold. I think something to the effect of "Better Service, Better Quality" should get the point across. This guy was a complete idiot anyways to be honest. He mentioned that I had to have at least 150' of hose to complete the Red lobster job and that it was good because they had "real hot water". He seemed totally shocked when i told 'em i carried 110 gallons, 300', and had temps of 230. I mentioned that i had a Butler TM and he said, "oh, yeah, I looked em up online before you came over". For someone to claim to be in this biz for 14 years (5 as an owner), he sure was a clueless one, but then again, most of the owners here are. Still get calls from 'em asking what a Rotovac is.
I made this purchase for his contracts...nothing more. The residential clients are just a plus
...and of course, to prevent someone else from buying and becoming more "competition"

This guys sounds like the one i bought my business from...but i paid a much higher price! 20k for his accounts and another 5k for equipment and chems (cimex included). He claimed to be in the biz for over 15years, but after he headed out of state i quickly learned that everything he "taught" me was quite wrong...he was trying to encapsulate with out ever researching the full capabilities of it! thank god for the internet and this forum, needles to say i never signed a Non-compete, which I most certainly should have done...who knows what the shmuck might do if he comes back! |
