Leverage scrubbing for Cimex

I've discovered a new way to scrub with the Cimex - at least it's new to me. If others already do this, I haven't seen it on this board. If it's old stuff for some, maybe it will be new for others.

Here's the background - we all probably have learned to tilt the Cimex to get added pressure on one side or the other to get out a difficult spot. Some even put their foot on the side of the machine to get that pressure.

I was in the middle of tilting the Cimex and I said to myself that if I put the handle in the upright position I could get even more leverage - and it worked.

Then I thought about keeping the handle in the upright position and tilting the machine and moving forward to clean a larger area that was especially difficult. That also worked.

You might want to try it. Two things - you will find that if you move forward while tilting the cimex one type of rotation will work better than the other for that particular tilt. In other words, if you don't feel the machine digging in with right tilt, then left tilt will work - or change the direction of rotation.

The second thing is check your pads often when doing this. You don't want to expose your drive pads by having the cleaning pads slip on you. Exposed drive pads aren't very good for carpet, either.

Added pressure may be hard on the carpet you're cleaning, so use discretion.
It will work, however, to get out some of those spots that you can't otherwise remove, or clean up those areas that you just couldn't get clean.

As with all things, moderation would be a key. I don't think you should use this technique to clean a large area. That could be hard on the belt and wear out too many pads. Of course, Rick would like that. Think of all the extra sales.

Now, that I've tried to be responsible, with a word of warming, you're on your own.

I've cleaned some pretty nasty CGD's and never had to do the tilt. I just go to the Grey pads and it gets everything up or I prespray with punch.

You've got to clean dirtier carpets. I've tilted with the grey pads many a time. Get out there and find some. It'll do your presentation book lots of good.

I've cleaned carpets that no one else could get clean (at least that was what I was told).

never tilted it but have posted about lifting handle...i would guess on stubborn spots that lifting the handle does a better job than tilting??

i like to lift and then push down as well...never stood on it tho.

i can not lift when the machine is "cold"...it bogs down immediately and stops. i wonder why it works after running it for several minutes, but not at 1st??

thanx --- Derek.

would adding some weight to the machine help?

just a thought

I think adding weight would indeed help but it would be inconvenient. One - you wouldn't need the extra weight most of the time, two - you'd have to find a way to stabilize the weight, three - you'd have to carry the weights from the truck and that would get old, 4, you'd be putting the weights on and then taking them off, and in the meantime I've cleaned the spot and gone on to other stuff while you're going to get the weights, putting them on and taking them off and carrying them away.

However, on a really big area that you can't get clean any other way, and you're willing to push the extra weight around, it might be worth a try. Just be prepared to wear everything out a little quicker, like pads and belts.

That's my opinion.

Actually, there is a way to add weight to the Cimex without having to stand on it.

Rick sold me a weight set and holders -specifically for marble polishing, you see. It adds about 75 pounds total and has a screw on holder that makes it secure.

I believe the man felt bad charging me for them, since it amounts to no more than metal shaped to fit the Cimex. But I think it's great and we use them when we do marble jobs.

Had not occurred to me to bring them on carpet jobs, but I may now...
