Does anyone own one on this board? Looking at a used one - want to know a little more about how reliable they are, etc.

Thanx!

We do not own one, but we clean several car dealers
in the janitorial side of our biz.

The Sprinter is the second most common car I see in the repair bays all the time. Always the same two things Engine repacement and tranny repacement.

For what its worth, no I don’t own one but I have wanted one in the worst way for several years now; just waiting to retire my two E-250’s. Well up until this week.

I have a friend of mine that is a plumber for a good size company. He has had one for a few months now and I asked him again how he likes his new one that he just got. His words to me were, “the love fest has worn off”. He has had several problems with his sliding door and one of the other Sprinters in their shop is currently losing a lot of oil. Not leaking, just blowing it out somewhere. For myself, I think the infatuation was finely worn off. My next truck will be a diesel and will probably be some type of box truck with a lift. Last week I saw for sale an ’06 Ford V6 diesel, 16’ box with custom lift gate and trailer hitch for 34K. Yes that’s good sized truck but when you consider it’s the same price as a Sprinter and twice as much room for the same price, to me it seems like the way to go. You could argue fuel mileage but what I’m currently getting in my E-250’s is crap anyways so it’s kind of mute. The funny thing is I called the number that was on the truck for sale and during the conversation I said to the guy, “You’re probably going think I’m on crack for saying this but, if I were to get the truck, I am considering converting it over to run on used vegetable oil as well”. His response was, no I think that is a great idea. He said his father in-law has an ’02 Excursion that he just did that to and he hasn’t bought diesel in over two months now. To me three advantages to doing that is 1) save fuel costs, 2) better for the environment, 3) something “green” and “outside of the box” that I can market to my clients. And having a truck that size gives me a HUGE billboard, plenty of space to keep all of my equipment and keep it organized and room under it to mount an additional tank for the veggie oil. One note, if you do go the veggie route and you live in colder climates there are a few other things to take into consideration but it is still vary doable.

Hey Dave if you convert a diesel to burning food grade oil, your truck will always smell like your favorite fast food joint... Chick-Fill-A. I think you should like that a lot. Nothing spells success better than a truck that smells like fried chicken.
