| Rick I just read your last post and have a quick question. I cleaned a resi Berber (yes it was olefin) in the basement of this home. The room was attached to a garage. They had two walk off mats upon entering the house, They removed the mats prior to cleaning and there it was on the Olefin the outlines of the mats. I have seen this before and it usually cleans up well, This time I cimexed it first and then the next day after it dried I had to HWE the area and it still didn't completly clean up. Is this caused by airflow in the room. I see this alot in steam cleaning where the perimeter of the rooms carpet is Black. I know the air has to go somewhere I assume it deposits the dust on the perimeter of the room...

The crud around the edges is filtration soil. The mat marks may be permanent. I'd try some VDS then cyclone on it if that didn't do it you could possibly try Stain Magic. Happy spotting. |

This post started "Berber Carpet" it should read, berber style carpet. There is wool, nylon, olefin and blends like 79% olefin and 21% nylon. Remember 100% olefin fiber floats in water for a quick test. The dark lines around the room have nothing to do with steam cleaning (unless done by a Hack). Those lines are there for a number of reasons. HVAC (heating, venting and air conditioning) improperly designed. Every room with a door that can be closed should have a supply vent and a return air vent. The HVAC system when runing becomes starved for air and pulls it from wherever it can get it hence Leakage. The 2x4 bottom plate of the wall has not been sealed where the wall meets the floor during construction allowing air infiltration pulling the airborne dirt with it. Also asparation (air travel in a room like when a ceiling fan or the HVAC system is on) causes a lot of it. Maintenance carpet cleaning not done on a regular basis. Vacuuming with a crevice tool regularly would also help. Remember, If you educate your customer, you can charge more.

| or is it off gas'ing? | August 23 2006, 12:26 PM |
as regards to soil filtration lines, Releasit EncapSpot works great on these.
is the a filtration line problem? if so, it can be an easy fix.
or an off-gas'ing problem caused by the mat?
if the latter, there is no way i personally know of to remove them.
thanx --- Derek.
