| should I use encap & HWE? When I come across a trashed carpet that would benefit from both a rinse and a scrub, which order is the best? Should i scrub it down with DS or Punch, then extract it? Which methods do folks here use? Any info would be greatly appreciated! |

Here are two options where you might consider using Encap/Scrubbing in conjunction with HWE cleaning:
1. If you are performing HWE cleaning, you can pre-scrub before you rinse. Adding agitation prior to rinsing with HWE can help to loosen the soil and the task of HWE becomes easier. It's also possible to pre-scrub the entire carpet first and then just rinse the more heavily soiled areas. This can speed up the cleaning process.
2. A second option is to "double clean" in the case of a really trashed carpet. In this scenario you could clean a deeply soil loaded carpet with HWE first (letting the customer know that it will likely "wick" and look terrible after it dries). And then come back the next day to do a post-encap cleaning to eliminate the wicking. This approach works well when it's performed over a weekend when a commercial building is not in use.

If I prescrub, should I use the Punch or DS? Does it matter?> |

You could use either product as a pre-scrub prior to HWE. It's easier to see how much product you're applying if you're using Encap-Clean because it foams a little. On the flip side, foam is not desirable when you're cleaning with HWE. And Encap-Punch has a slight advantage since it is designed on a pre-spray platform hence it's ideal for a HWE application, and it has low foam.
Here's what some cleaners are doing...
They will quicly pre-scrub the entire carpet with Encap-Punch. After scrubbing 100% of the carpet with Encap-Punch, they rinse as much of the carpet as necessary. There are two benefits to this approach. (1) The areas that are rinsed are much easier to clean; they respond quicker and clean up better since they were pre-scrubbed. (2) And the cleaner areas of the carpet won't need to be rinsed at all. The un-rinsed sections will be encap cleaned only (via Encap-Punch). So you might only need to rinse say 60%-75% of the carpet. This technique can make the carpet easier to clean and can amount to a significant time saving.

Thanks for the info Rick, I cant wait to try this combo out on some trashed resi....
Of course I have another question! Can I use just Punch as a stand alone cleaner(just prespray) and then extract, or will I still need a different shampoo cleaner to add to the mix? I am using the Steamin Demon for extraction.

I have just gotten my Sprint and have prescrubbed some very nasty residential cut pile- it had not been cleaned in 8 years!!!! Thankfully the guy vacuums frequently. It had many spots/stains in it. Most all of it came out in the Sprint/Punch prescrub. then I followed with HWE with a rotovac- wala all clean.
Hopefully I can post some before and after photos when I get a chance.
