| Does anyone charge for this? I have my biggest customer, which is a chain store that is interested in me vacuuming each store once a week. I was wondering what you would charge. One of the stores is 98,000 sq ft.

8 cents a square foot. Depending on the type of store it was, I would look into a riding vac or hire some women who want to make a little extra money. |

Ralph,
There are several back pac vacs that can clean 5000 to 6000 sq. ft. per hour. Most come with out a power head. Power heads have rotating brushed that do a much better job.
I use these on churches, schools, and on some large residential. They are very impressive. Customers always look and make a comment like "Wow, Star Wars"

Feel free to adjust the prices for your business and/or your area. I am an Owner/Operator so I don't have any employees to pay out of these fees. If you do you will need to charge more. But I think Rick only pays his techs .015 per Square Foot to vac AND clean the area.
Vacuuming Service
• Under 500 square feet- .065 per square foot
• to 0750 square feet- .060 per square foot
• to 1000 square feet- .055 per square foot
• to 1500 square feet- .050 per square foot
• to 2500 square feet- .045 per square foot
• to 5000 square feet- .040 per square foot
• 5000+ square feet- .035 per square foot
• $25.00 minimum fee for Vacuuming Service

I agree with Rambo::
"hire some women who want to make a little extra money."
What is a riding vac;?? Similar to a rice-on carpet sweeper ??
Cheers,
Shorty.
I've seen the light, and changed my ways. |

| I figure jobs like that, backwards... | March 1 2007, 8:35 PM |
How long is going to take (# of hrs.) + # of people + their hourly rate + $ you want to make = total job cost divided by square foot = cost per sq. ft. and it could be as low as .02 if you get my drift. |

These are the national averages. Don't remember what the original source is but it reputable. Your milage may vary:
CARPET VACUUMING
12” Upright vacuum 26.00 Mins/1000sq.feet, or 2300 sq.feet/hr
16” Upright vacuum 14.00 Mins/1000sq.feet, or 4,280 sq.feet/hr
14” Backpack vacuum floor tool 8.00 Mins/1000sq.feet, or 7,400 sq.feet/hr
28” Battery vacuum 7.00 Mins/1000sq.feet, or 8,500 sq.feet/hr
You might be able to increase profits by adding pilelifting maybe once a month.

I do the backwards thing like Mr. Moody described. I also agree with what Jamie said, backpacks can be pretty useful in environments requiring flexibility, manuverability. I've used Lil Hummer's with Lindhaus PB powerheads with success. Those Lindhaus PB's are nice. I think ProTeam still makes the Lil Hummer just has a different name. They bought out the manufacturer of the Hummer and the BlackHole. I've had good durability and performance from them. Also Sandia's Super Raven units have powerhead options, I've also enjoyed being able to use Those. Have also used the riding sweeper/vacs they seemed okay too. Would do this 5 story bldg. drive it on and off the elevator. |

I own a janitorial service. We can vacuum a 21,000 Sq./ft. building with cubicles and offices in about 2.5 hours with a windsor backpack (one person). Standard 12" floor tool. Periodically we use a 18" and a 12" upright with red brush strips which helps to lift the pile slightly. Using uprights it could take about 2.0 hours (two people).
I hope this helps. |

I appreciate all your help. I will actually have a full time guy on this. I have five stores that would be done once a week ranging from 30,000 to 98,000. I think Rambo is right, I can probably go as little as 0.2 per sq ft of even less and still make a nice profit.

I was going to ask where I could see a selection of good backpack vacuums. I am interested in looking at some, but have no idea what to look for, or where.

I can get proteams, CFR, and Dust Care. ALL IT IS, IS A MOTER WITH A BOX AROUND IT, THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME MOTERS. THE COST IS WAY DIFFERENT ON THEM. |
