Is cat hair an issue?

March 10 2007 at 5:13 PM
theservant

I got scheduled cleaning for monday (residential) Theres cats in the home.I've been heard a number of things about pet urine but what about cat hair. How will that affect my pile lifter brush, ect. are there any lingering side affects? Has anyone experienced a cleaning with pet hair? I mexed a carpet 3000 sq.ft. last night and there was carpet fuzz all under the drivers
they tell cats hair is some sticky mess. Input?
Thanks,

You are not my servant. If you have never cleaned carpet w/o pet hair, you must be a Newby. Cimex is mainly for commercial, so there should be no pet hair. If you are using a Pile Lifter B4 cleaning that should take care of the pet hair. I prefer the CRB machines as they both clean the carpet and pilelift in one motion. I am not much of a two step person when one will get the job done. I just don't have that much time to kill. Our average used to be $100 an hour but is now up to $125 to $150

Alex, your X-vac should take care of the cat hair.

if you are using your Cimex or an OP machine, sure you will probably still see some cat hair under the deck and on the pads...don't sweat it.

when i OP i always post-vac with my Dyson. i don't recommend you post-vac with the X-vac tho! if you have a Bissel or any other manual-height-adjustment-type-upright-vac, raise the height to it's highest level (or 2nd hightest), and then post-vac if you want.

let us know how it goes --- Derek.

Derek, that’s a good point you made about post vacing residential carpet with the height adjustment raised up. I have a little “disposable” Dirt Devil upright that never sees dirt. I use it exclusively for post vacing damp carpet. It doesn’t have a height adjustment. I never thought about that. Thanks Derek!

It is a little labor intensive but what about pre or post grooming with a "rubber" broom? Target sells a the ones we use which is compatible with most threads("acme" I think?) but also available at Walgreens as the One Sweep. The static electricity and texture of the rubber bristles really work pretty well on hair. Too labor intensive?
On the X-Vac PileLifeter, could the vacuum motor not be unplugged so moisture wouldn't be sucked into the bag? That is what we do with the Certified. That is how we use it for encap cleaning, plug in vac & brush motors for prevac/pilelifting, then if necessary vac with a more efficient vacuum, then unplug vac motor, apply encap via sprayer and pile lift without vac motor running. Then grandi groom if wanted and wait for drying(or not) and pile lift again w/vac motor running/plugged in. We have the nylon bristle brush instead of the natural fiber brush on Certified. It also works on the Minuteman pilelifters. Can work okay in a pinch or when trying to squeeze more $$ or square footage out of limited eqmt.

i learned the hard way, have only used my $120 model Bissel Clearview once and all it's plumbing is now clogged with dog hair cause i left the height all the way down for post-vac after OP'ing.

good idea Dave. i've read some on ICS about ppl using those rubber brooms Dave. do a Search there and see how it worked for ppl.

if you used the rubber broom for post-vac, would the moisture on the carpet hinder/negate the static electricity?

thanx --- Derek.

Derek, you are so correct. I have to regularly take my little Dirt Devil apart and clean it out.

I bought one of those “As Seen on TV” rubber brooms from Walgreens and it does not work on damp carpet (no static electricity). I do use it however for sweeping the hard surface on my way out the front door to leave a nice and tidy jobsite.

Rubber broom

Wonder if to use it before vacing, instead of a grandigroom? Might pull up more hair. before prevac, then further reduction with cleaning and post vac? Also, wonder what a GrandiBrush might do, would it pull out more hair? In jest! maybe one of those Lint roller floor sweepers?

I found that just a thorough pre-vac is more efficient than using the rubber broom. Then after cleaning post-vac, good to go.

Rambo has the best system. CRB machine but I aint got one:(

do you pile lift with x-vac? If so where is the finger tip control that powers the brush motor and the vacuum motor seperately as mention on the exellent-supply web site? It would be nice to have. Maybe i'm over looking it.

Sounds like a plan. Lets start with this question: Had i known what you shared with us about your speed with crb and all the benefits you mentioned i would have purchased the sprint rather than cimex for now. Becuase most of my customers are resi right now. Well now i need a vacuum to compliment my x-vac. I like the linhaus because it has the attachments for edges ect. Based on my limited knowledge i understand conquest rules digging in pile. If the linhause can come 90% close to the conquest when digging, as the crb to the cimex, then i'll take the linhaus with the extras. Linhaus Vs. conquest. Which? Linhaus has 77 waterlift(inches) conquest has?

Thanks Rambo

Waterlift is only one part of rating a vacuum cleaner for efficacy. Vacuums are rated in "air watts" which is a combonation of water lift and air flow. Linhaus vs. Conquest, my preference is the 18" Conquest with the Anti-Allergen System (throw away micro-filtration bag) Never a Dirt Cup We find no need for on-board attachments as the Conquest running down the baseboard moves enough air to pull everything into the vac from the crevices. It is a real Heavy Duty vac, run over nails, screws, paper clips, whatever, it goes into the heavy object clean-out.
