Problem with Cimex...

March 25 2007 at 10:49 AM

Joe DeSouza

It feels like my 19" cimex does not want to track straight when im using it, its worse on some carpets than others...It pulls side to side arbitrarily, so I cant clean a straight line - constantly fighting it. It almost feels like a car with loose front end and bad alignment, so your'e constantly making corrections to keep it straight if you know what I mean. Everything seems tight with the machine, so I dont know what might be causing it. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Joe

ps other cimex's Ive tried never did this, so I'm assuming there must be a problem...It does it on every job so I know it's not just the carpet.

did you try rinsing out the plumbing? Some times if one of the holes is clogged the pad wont receive as much solution, causing it to pull.

that is the link i believe for instructions on cleaning out plumbing.

Loose or broken belt

Make sure that base is rotating and not just the brushes/pads.

I have that problem in some locations. Upon investigating, the problem is all the locations is uneven subflooring. So, in those places I use a 17" 300rpm swing machine.

Good answers above. It could be the sub-floor. Another factor could be the lay of the carpet. Working against the nap creates a little more resistance, but it's not a big deal. A loose belt can add increased drag too. Or it may very likely be the the plumbing. If the plumbing is not clean, an uneven flow can occur that will drive you crazy. The two most likely culprits are the plumbing or the belt.

I will clean out the plumbing and check the belt this week - Question...What is the maximum allowable deflection on the belt?

Thanks again, Joe

Joe there is no specification for max deflection for the belt. The indicator that it is time to replace the belt is when it begins to slip. Slippage can be observed when the drivers and the drive deck are not turning as they should, then you are beginning to see the need for a new belt.
