| i got my new cimex yesterday 8) i'm happy and can't wait to test this puppy out. i only have texture carpets here so i can't use it at home. So it's time to get some crappy old carpets. Now looking back on some old questions regarding humping this puppy up the stairs.
Silly question, what about straping it to a dolly. Thinking the wheels are the same size, but the dolly handle might be better then using the cimex handles.
I agree that the head should reset back more. but i asume there is a reason for it's design.

Do a search...
On "BIG WHEELS" and "CIMEX, STAIRS"
If you have any questions I can help, Derek and Bo Newman, and I think Rambo all have the wheels for our Mexes.

Hey Steve:
Actually Steve, for your own benefit, go ahead and try the Mex on you carpet. I think you'll be quite surprised at how good it looks. Just remember to groom the swirls out before it dries. Kinda like combing your hair when you wash it. Tends to stay where it dries.
Also, the best idea for moving the machine up stairs is the Big Wheels deal that I've seen from Senior Derek. Put the 14" Wheels on, reduce the pressure in the wheels to about 3 PSI and feel how much easier to get it up and down stairs. Here is a link

Del is right, the best add-on you can do to the Cimex is 13 or 14" wheels. I have 13" on mine. Rick T is on target with the psi per tire. Also agree on the residential carpet, use the white pads, I have cleaned all kinds including orientals w/o problems. |

WELCOME to the Cimex/Releasit Encap Club!
A few of the guys are using the big wheels on their Cimex.
That should help you to go up stairs.
Keep us posted as you get that big yellow baby humming. You're gonna love it!

Drilling a hole in the original wheels will void the warranty on the wheels, but only the wheels. I can tell you though, of all the Cimex's I've sold in Canada, I've never had a warranty claim pertaining to wheels. So, I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. But if your going to be lugging the machine up and down stairs, I think you'll really appreciate the benefit.

I thought it voided the whole machine. O.K. you convinced me. Thats GOOD NEWS cause i've been lugging up and down, up and down.
Trying to keep from banging it. i spend 20 min. going up and down. Sorta like a car running over pot-holes Eventually wearing the suspencion.
Thanks

oh man Alex, get those tires on your back will thank you!
even if it did void my warranty i wouldn't care, Cimex is built like a tank with minimal moving parts to break.
i can't take credit for the tire idea....Bo Newman came up with it 1st here i think.
still haven't tried the reduced PSI yet tho...i still keep them full of air.
thanx --- Derek. |

I'm definitely gonna do just that after climbing 25 stairs with a 1/2 inch lip sticking pass the riser. I could have use that energy somewhere else. you are right.
Thanks

There doesn't seem to be any need to worry about the holes in the wheels weakening the wheels. I have seen zero problems. Drill away.
Hint for ease in attaching wheels.(Of course, after you've drilled the holes). Do it this way so you don't try to lift both wheels off the ground at the same time. That's awkward and inefficient.
1. Mark on side of wheels where the holes are (paint - magic marker) - put the mark where you can see it from the back of the machine.
2. Rotate the wheels until the mark is at the low point - use your foot. (You'll figure out what is the correct low point).
3. Tilt the Cimex so that one wheel is up in the air a few inches and thread through rod (have one wheel already attached to the rod).
4. Tilt the other way and attach other wheel.
Total time - 10 seconds
Putting but 3psi in wheels allow the wheels to glide over the steps more - less bouncing.
